Mexican catering in Picket Twenty

Mexican catering in Picket Twenty, from our truck or trailer

A build-your-own taco bar is one of the most sociable ways to feed a crowd. Guests fill their own tortillas from the fillings, salsas and toppings, so nobody ends up with something they don’t want. At markets and community events and leaving parties, we can serve tacos, burrito bowls and burritos and more.

Somewhere like Picket Twenty, a field or garden is often the setting. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. We’ll check the space, access and power with you before the day, so set-up goes smoothly.

How to compare caterers

How the day works

A typical event goes like this: we arrive and set up, service opens at the agreed time, and your guests are served fresh for the agreed time. A December event in Picket Twenty will be in the dark from about 4:00pm, so choose a spot where guests can see what they’re ordering. In late June, by contrast, daylight lasts until about 9:25pm.

  1. It begins with the basics: your date, venue, guest numbers and dietary needs.
  2. We put together a menu around your guests and quote for it.
  3. Before the day, we agree access, the serving spot, power and water.
  4. On the day we arrive, set up and serve hot food from our food truck or trailer.
  5. After service, we clear away and leave the spot tidy.

Preparing for the day

  • Tell us about narrow gates or low branches
  • Have level hardstanding or firm ground ready
  • Ask the venue about power and water

Compared with a hog roast or barbecue, tacos make vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free guests easier to cater for, thanks to separate fillings and toppings. Your choice of food and drinks affects the price, so tell us what you have in mind. We’ll suggest options to suit your budget.

Picket Twenty: your questions answered

How far is Picket Twenty from London?

It’s about 62 miles from central London, and inside the area we cover.

Can you cater a reception after a service at United Reformed Church?

Yes. The church itself is not where we’d set up, but a hall, field or garden close by with room for the truck or trailer can work well. Let us know the reception address and we will check the access.

How is the food prepared?

We slow-cook fillings ahead, then finish them and keep them hot at your event. The tortillas are warmed on site, and the salsas and guacamole are made fresh.

What access do you need?

The main things are access and a level spot: a level spot to park, space for guests to queue and a little room for a serving table. Send us a picture and tell us about gates, slopes and soft ground.

Can you serve drinks as well?

We can. Our Mexican drinks bar serves margaritas, Mexican beer, aguas frescas and soft drinks. Licensing is checked with you first.

What happens if it rains?

The truck or trailer can serve in the rain, but your guests will want somewhere covered, such as a marquee, gazebo or nearby building.

How far ahead should we book?

The sooner the better. Popular dates go first, so get in touch early.

Is the food suitable for children?

Yes, children are easy to plan for. Let us know numbers and ages, and we’ll plan the menu with them in mind.

Planning for every diet

Every guest is catered for, vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free included. To make it work smoothly:

  • Mention any other caterers or courses
  • Put any allergies in writing for us
  • Ask guests about diets and allergies with your invitations
  • Confirm the venue is happy to have a catering vehicle

Rain doesn’t stop us serving from the truck or trailer, though guests need somewhere under cover to eat.

Ask about extra salsas and toppings for a bigger spread.

Can I do a taco night myself?

A DIY taco night is possible for a crowd, but it is more work than it looks. There are fillings to slow-cook, tortillas to keep warm and salsas to make. Read our guide to taco bars.

Doing it yourself? Start with the quantities: our guide to how many tacos per person helps. Keep warmed tortillas covered, and label anything containing allergens.

  • Served from our truck or trailer at your venue, garden or event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, with allergen information
  • Tacos and taco bars, burritos, bowls, nachos and quesadillas
  • Mexican drinks bar: margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas
