Before you choose a spot

We serve from a truck or trailer, so the spot needs a little planning. Here’s what we look for:

  • A clear area in front of the bar
  • A bar spot away from homes
  • A premises licence or a Temporary Event Notice in place

In South Street, as everywhere in Greater London, the ULEZ applies and kerb space is limited. Where will the truck or trailer stop? A drive, a courtyard or a suspended bay can all work.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we will advise before booking.

Drinks planning tips

A few tips to help the bar run smoothly:

  • Ensure there’s water for guests
  • Think about how guests get home
  • Give the council notice in good time for a Temporary Event Notice
  • Give us numbers for children

There are always alcohol-free options, including aguas frescas.

A welcome margarita as guests arrive.

Soft drinks

There’s always something alcohol-free.

Margaritas

Tequila, lime and orange liqueur over ice.

Should I do it myself?

Some hosts like to do it themselves. Common snags are cold tortillas, uneven quantities and the host missing the party. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us serve.

You can set up your own drinks table, but someone still has to mix, pour and keep an eye on it all evening. See our margarita bar guide.

FAQs for South Street

Do you cater in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles, ground and catering, so check with yours. We will follow the site rules.

Which station should guests use for South Street?

Guests can use Oxted station, about 3.7 miles south-west of South Street.

Do you provide bar staff?

Our bar staff run the bar. Responsible serving comes first.

What do you serve?

We agree a sample menu with each client. Fillings could include slow-cooked pork carnitas, chicken tinga, beef birria and vegan options such as spiced mushrooms or black beans. Our sample menu has more ideas.

Who handles the licensing?

Alcohol at an event needs the venue’s premises licence or a Temporary Event Notice. We will check the licensing with you. GOV.UK explains Temporary Event Notices.

Do you have gluten-free options?

Yes, gluten-free options are available, made with corn tortillas. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we can explain how we prepare their food. See are corn tortillas gluten-free?

Can you serve in the rain?

We can keep serving from the truck or trailer in the rain, but guests need somewhere covered to eat and drink, such as a marquee, gazebo or nearby building.

Do you have vegan options?

Yes, they’re part of the planning from the start. Let us know how many vegetarian and vegan guests to expect, and we’ll keep their options separate.

How it works

We arrive in good time before service, then set up and prepare everything. When service opens, guests come up to the hatch or serving table. By late September, sunset in South Street comes at roughly 7:05pm, so a bar running later in the evening needs lamps or festoons. In late May, it stays light until about 8:50pm.

  1. Send us the date, venue and numbers.
  2. We talk through licensing with you.
  3. We agree a drinks menu.
  4. We serve drinks responsibly on the day.
  5. We clear the bar at the end.

Preparing for the day

  • Name one person we can ask on the day
  • Plan a covered area for guests if rain is likely
  • Confirm numbers and diets before the day
