DIY taco night versus a caterer

Weighing up a DIY taco night against a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Doing it yourself? Start with the quantities: our guide to how many tacos per person helps. Keep warmed tortillas covered, and label dishes for guests with allergies.

Mexican bar hire or something else?

DIY drinks tables are easy but need constant topping up. A staffed bar keeps everything under control. Pricing depends on the event. A simple party menu and a full wedding day are very different jobs. Contact us for a quote.

Common questions in Tile Hurst

Do you come out to small places like Tile Hurst?

Yes, we cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates, ground and parking.

Could you serve our guests after a service at Zoar Strict Baptist Chapel?

Yes. The church itself is not where we’d set up, but a hall, field or garden close by with room for the truck or trailer can work well. Let us know the reception address and we’ll check the access.

Who clears up?

We pack down and tidy our own area after service. For anything beyond that, such as guests’ tables, ask us.

Do you do a taco bar?

We can. A build-your-own taco bar can be served from the truck or a serving station, with fillings, salsas, guacamole and toppings. Read our taco bar guide.

When do you arrive?

It depends on your event. Timings are agreed in advance to suit your day.

Do you need power and water?

Let us know what’s available on site, such as a supply from the venue near where we’ll park, and we will confirm what we need with your quote.

Is the food made fresh?

We slow-cook fillings ahead, then finish them and keep them hot at your event. The tortillas are warmed on site, and the salsas and guacamole are made fresh.

Is the food suitable for children?

Yes, children are easy to plan for. Let us know numbers and ages, and we will suggest mild options.

How it works

We work to your timings. If speeches run late or the photos take longer, let us know and we will adjust where we can. Evening drinks in Tile Hurst stay light until about 8:50pm in late May and 9:15pm in late June, so a summer drinks bar can run into the evening in daylight. String lights or lanterns near the hatch make a later bar easier to find.

  1. You tell us the date, venue, guest numbers and the drinks you have in mind.
  2. We talk licensing through with you: the venue’s licence or a Temporary Event Notice.
  3. We put together a drinks menu, with alcohol-free choices, and quote for it.
  4. We arrive, set up and serve margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas.
  5. We pack away when the bar shuts and leave the area tidy.

Before we arrive

  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to park
  • Get the venue’s permission for us to park and serve
  • Arrange somewhere covered for guests to eat
