DIY taco night versus a caterer

You can host your own taco night for a crowd, but it takes planning. Fillings need slow cooking, tortillas need warming as you go, and salsas need making. Our taco bar guide explains how.

Not sure whether to do it yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Contact us for a quote to compare.

Mexican catering in Fickleshole, from our truck or trailer

Mobile Mexican catering means the kitchen comes to you: we park our food truck or trailer on site and serve hot food from it. You don’t need a kitchen at the venue. It suits christenings and family parties and office lunches and team days, with quesadillas, burrito bowls and loaded nachos.

Somewhere as small as Fickleshole, a garden or field is often the venue. Tell us about narrow lanes, gates and long drives and we will plan for them, and soft ground after rain is worth mentioning. We arrive ready to serve, and clear our own area when service is finished.

Prices and what affects them

Contact us for a quote, and the price is based on:

  • The number of people
  • Whether you need disposables
  • Distance and access to the venue
  • Staff for serving and the bar

A food truck can be a practical alternative to plated catering, because it needs no venue kitchen. Contact us for a quote to compare.

What we need to know

You don’t need every detail fixed to get a quote, but these help:

  • What you’d like on the menu
  • How we drive in and where we can park
  • The date and rough timings
  • Expected numbers

Most quotes start with a few simple details: date, location, guest numbers and diets. Contact us for a quote: just send a quick message through our quote form.

Planning the serving area

We’ll agree the spot with you before the day. It needs to meet a few simple requirements:

  • Power and water arrangements, confirmed with each booking
  • Some distance from houses and neighbours
  • Level, firm ground or hardstanding for the truck or trailer

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Common questions in Fickleshole

Do you cater in villages like Fickleshole?

Yes. Villages and hamlets are part of our area, and the main thing is access: tell us about the lane, the gate and the ground.

Could you serve our guests after a service at Church of St Leonard?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall with access for the truck or trailer. Service would be at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

Can you set up at our venue?

Tell us about the venue and the way in, and we’ll check it works. We also need room for a queue.

Can you serve in the rain?

We can keep serving from the truck or trailer in the rain, but your guests will want somewhere covered, such as a marquee, gazebo or nearby building.

Can you cater for guests who avoid dairy?

Yes. Dairy-free options are part of our menus.

How many guests can you cater for?

That depends on the event. As a guide, it’s around 50 to 400 guests; tell us your numbers and we’ll take it from there.

What areas do you cover?

London and the South East: Greater London, Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and Oxfordshire, including Fickleshole.

Are plates and napkins included?

We confirm that with your quote. Let us know what the venue supplies.

Planning for every diet

A little planning makes sure everyone can eat. Try these:

  • Plan somewhere covered for guests to eat if it rains
  • Give us separate numbers for children
  • Tell us about coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences
  • Mention any other caterers or courses

We work around your timings, and adapt if they move.

Quesadillas are a good choice for children and cautious eaters.

What happens on the day

We get there well before you want to serve, then set up and prepare everything. When service opens, guests come up to the hatch or serving table. In Fickleshole, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting around the truck and the queue.

  1. Contact us with the basics: when, where and how many.
  2. We come back with menu ideas and a quote.
  3. Nearer the date, we go over the final plan.
  4. At the agreed time, service starts from the truck or trailer.
  5. We pack away when service is over.

How to prepare

  • Arrange somewhere covered for guests to eat
  • Measure any gates or arches on the way in
  • Get the venue’s permission for us to park and serve
