Dietary needs and planning tips

Dietary needs are easy to plan for with a little notice. We suggest:

  • Ask the venue whether food trucks are allowed
  • Count children separately
  • Put any allergies in writing for us
  • Have a covered area ready in case of rain

For a taco bar, we lay the fillings, salsas and toppings out on a table, and guests build their own.

Add our Mexican drinks bar, with margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas, with licensing checked with you.

Mexican catering in Hillway, served fresh

Our truck or trailer travels to events across Hillway and nearby: private gardens, venue grounds, courtyards and fields. It suits fundraisers and school events and weddings and evening receptions, serving burrito bowls, loaded nachos and burritos.

In a hamlet or village like Hillway, your own garden or a neighbour’s field can make a good venue. Mention gates and soft ground when you get in touch. Everything is prepared fresh for your event and served from our truck or trailer.

The process

The truck or trailer needs a level, firm spot with access to drive in, with power and water arrangements agreed beforehand. A picture of the space helps. Winter evenings in Hillway close in by about 4:00pm, so choose a spot where guests can see what they’re ordering. In late June, by contrast, daylight lasts until about 9:20pm.

  1. You tell us the date, the venue, rough guest numbers and any dietary needs.
  2. We suggest a sample menu and send a quote for your event.
  3. We check access, power and water with you or the venue.
  4. On the day, we set up and serve from the truck or trailer, or from a taco-bar station.
  5. After service, we clear away and leave the spot tidy.

Before we arrive

  • Share the running order, including any speeches
  • Name one person we can ask on the day
  • Confirm the venue allows outside caterers

Can I do a taco night myself?

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party serving. With a caterer, you get the food and drinks without the work.

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, with allergen information for every dish.

About the menu

Quesadillas

A quesadilla is an easy favourite, and they go down well with children.

Burritos and burrito bowls

Rice, beans, a filling and toppings rolled in a large tortilla, or the same served in a bowl.

What we need at the venue

We’ll be honest if a space will not work, and help find another spot. What matters most:

  • Space for guests to queue
  • Some distance from houses and neighbours
  • Clear vehicle access: gate widths, height limits and the ground checked before the day

Hillway is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we’ll plan the journey and access for the truck or trailer.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we’ll advise before booking.

Mexican catering around Hillway

Hillway is about 4 miles south-east of Ryde, in the Isle of Wight. Whether your event is in the middle of Hillway or on the outskirts, Mexican catering works the same way: fresh service from our truck or trailer, every diet planned for and a clear quote. We serve in all 125 towns and villages across the Isle of Wight, from the larger towns to small villages, wherever the truck or trailer can get in. Our truck and trailer cover the area from Hillway to Southampton (about 21 miles away).

Close to Hillway are historic houses such as Yaverland Manor (1.6 miles west) and Morton Manor (2.3 miles west). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on outside caterers and vehicles early. When the service is at a church such as Bembridge Methodist Church, the food typically happens elsewhere, at a field, hall or garden with room for the truck. The coast is within about 3 miles of Hillway, so for a seaside event we plan around the wind. The truck or trailer needs firm ground rather than sand or shingle, and seafront spots generally need permission from the council or landowner.

Anywhere in PO35, we can bring Mexican catering to you, from busy streets to quiet lanes. From Hillway Road and Jenny Streets Lane or anywhere nearby, we can bring Mexican catering there, given access. For events just outside Hillway, we cover Bembridge (1 mile north-east), Foreland Fields (1 mile north-east), St Helens (2 miles north-west), Gaskins (2 miles north-west) and Yaverland (2 miles south-west). Further out, we also cater in Newport (9 miles west), Ryde (4 miles north-west), Cowes (11 miles north-west), Sandown (3 miles south-west), Shanklin (5 miles south-west) and Ventnor (7 miles south-west). Some remote venues need extra planning, so contact us in good time about access, ground and power.

A little further out are Sandown Castle (2.6 miles south-west) and Arthur Webster Memorial Hospital for Children (4.7 miles south-west). The countryside around Hillway includes Bembridge Down and Brading Marshes RSPB reserve.

  • Local schools include Bembridge School (1.2 miles north-east)
  • Pubs nearby include The Propeller Inn (0.5 miles west)

Questions from Hillway

Can you serve near the sea around Hillway?

We can, given firm ground and the landowner’s permission. Beaches and promenades generally need the council’s agreement, so check that first.

Will you travel to a small place like Hillway?

Yes, small places are no problem, given access. Let us know about access and parking for the truck or trailer.

Do you have options for kids?

Of course. Mild dishes, quesadillas and nachos can be part of the menu. Include children in your numbers.

Can you cater for special diets?

Diets are planned in advance, with options kept separate, though we cannot guarantee a kitchen with no trace of any allergen. Anyone with a severe allergy should speak to us first.

Can we add a bar?

Our drinks bar can be added to any booking, with margaritas, Mexican beer, aguas frescas and soft drinks. We will check the licensing with you before the day.

How much space do you need?

The main things are access and a level spot: a firm spot for the truck or trailer, room for a queue and, for a taco bar, space for a serving table. Send us a photo and tell us about gates, slopes and soft ground.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

Yes, with corn tortillas. Corn tortillas are naturally gluten-free, but some fillings, sauces and toppings may not be, so we check every dish and give allergen information.

How far ahead should we book?

As soon as you have a date. Peak dates go quickly, so contact us early.
