How our Mexican catering works in Merton

Food from a truck or trailer feels relaxed. Guests come up to the hatch, chat while they wait and take something hot back to their seats. It suits weddings and evening receptions and anniversaries and engagements, serving burrito bowls, tacos and quesadillas.

Somewhere as small as Merton, a garden or field is often the venue. Tell us about narrow lanes, gates and long drives and we will plan for them, and soft ground after rain is worth mentioning. Timings are planned around your event, so service starts when you want it.

Build-your-own taco bar

A taco bar is relaxed and sociable, and guests with different diets can choose what suits them, with every dish labelled.

Tacos

Tacos are the classic street food of Mexico. We serve them with salsas and toppings, and corn tortillas suit gluten-free guests.

How it works

Serving is quick: we serve from the hatch or a serving station, so even a long queue moves. Afterwards we clear our area. A December event in Merton will be in the dark from about 3:55pm, so choose a spot where guests can see what they’re ordering. At midsummer, the light holds until around 9:25pm.

  1. Begin with the date, the place and the numbers.
  2. We come back with menu ideas and a quote.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm timings and arrangements.
  4. We serve hot food from our truck or trailer at the agreed time.
  5. When you are done, we pack away.

Before we arrive

  • Check gates and access routes are wide and high enough
  • Give us your final numbers and diets
  • Confirm the venue allows outside caterers

Our caterer checklist

Should I do it myself?

For a small group, a taco night at home can work well. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and handles allergen information for you.

A DIY taco night is possible for a crowd, but it is more work than it looks. There are fillings to slow-cook, tortillas to keep warm and salsas to make. Our taco bar guide explains how.

Before you choose a spot

We’ll agree the spot with you before the day. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • The venue’s or landowner’s permission for a catering vehicle
  • Room for a serving table for the taco bar
  • A clear area in front of the hatch for a queue

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly.

Prices and what affects them

Your quote will be clear. What affects it most:

  • Parking and the route in
  • The length of service
  • The number of people
  • What the venue already provides

If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we will suggest a menu that fits. Even a simple menu can feel generous.

What we need to know

For a quote, it helps to have:

  • A picture of the space, if it’s a garden or field
  • Expected numbers
  • Your menu ideas
  • Access for the truck or trailer, including gates and ground

Most quotes start with a few simple details: date, location, guest numbers and diets. Contact us for a quote: just send us your details through our quote form.

Questions from Merton

How far is Merton from London?

Roughly 52 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Can you cater a reception after a service at Church of St Swithin?

Yes, at a garden, field or venue nearby where the truck or trailer can park. Service would be at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

Can you keep it mild?

It’s up to you: we can keep the main dishes mild, with hotter salsas served separately. Read more about how spicy Mexican food is.

What’s on the menu?

We agree a sample menu with each client. Fillings could include slow-cooked pork carnitas, chicken tinga, beef birria and vegan options such as spiced mushrooms or black beans. See our menu for ideas.

What food do you serve?

Every menu is agreed with you, with fillings such as chicken tinga, carnitas or black beans. Take a look at the sample menu.

How is the food prepared?

We cook to order in our food truck or trailer kitchen, or serve from a taco bar. Slow-cooked fillings are prepared in advance and kept hot on site.

Do you cater for vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free guests?

We plan carefully for diets and keep options separate, though we can’t guarantee a kitchen with no trace of any allergen. Anyone with a severe allergy should speak to us first.

Can you plan for allergies?

Yes, and it helps to hear about allergies when you book. Under UK rules, caterers must give information on 14 allergens, and we do that for every dish (Food Standards Agency guidance). Anyone with a severe allergy should speak to us before the event.

Organising for someone else?

Events in public spaces, like parks, generally need permission. We can send what the landowner or council needs from us.

If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, whether you’re a planner, an office manager or an event organiser, we’re happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It saves passing messages back and forth.

Dietary needs and planning tips

Nearly every event has some special diets. To cater well for them:

  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Have a covered area ready in case of rain
  • Include at least one vegan filling
  • Mention any other caterers or courses

Once everyone has eaten, we tidy up and pack away.

Quesadillas are a good choice for children and cautious eaters.

  • Served from our truck or trailer at your venue, garden or event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, with allergen information
  • Tacos and taco bars, burritos, bowls, nachos and quesadillas
  • Mexican drinks bar: margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas
