Mexican catering for Shadwell events

About our Mexican catering in Shadwell

We plan each menu with the client, so fillings might include slow-cooked pork carnitas, chicken tinga or beef birria, alongside vegan choices such as black beans or spiced mushrooms. For big birthday celebrations and markets and community events, we’ll put together a menu of burritos, burrito bowls and a build-your-own taco bar.

In Shadwell, events range from courtyards to hired halls. Let us know where the truck or trailer can stop and about any narrow entrances. Guests are served from our truck or trailer, or from a serving table nearby, and we plan the service around your numbers.

Diets, allergies and planning

Allergies and diets are taken seriously. Here’s how you can help:

  • Plan somewhere covered for guests to eat if it rains
  • Plan a vegan filling as well as a vegetarian one
  • Check that your venue allows outside caterers and vehicles
  • Ask guests about diets and allergies with your invitations

On the day, we arrive in good time to park up and get ready. Someone from the venue just needs to point us to the agreed spot.

Ask us about plates, cutlery and serving staff and we will confirm what’s possible with your quote.

How the day works

On the day, we position the truck or trailer and get the serving area ready. Service starts at the time we’ve agreed, so everything runs to your schedule. Around midsummer it stays light in Shadwell until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening events are generally served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting around the truck and the queue.

  1. Contact us with the basics: when, where and how many.
  2. Expect a suggested menu and a quote.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm timings and arrangements.
  4. At the agreed time, service starts from the truck or trailer.
  5. When you’re done, we pack away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Choose a level, firm spot for the truck or trailer
  • Measure any gates or arches on the way in
  • Ask the venue about power and water

Occasions we cater for in Shadwell

Tacos and burritos go down well with most crowds: familiar, filling and easy to eat wherever guests are.

If you are planning any of these, we can help:

  • Office lunches and team days
  • Leaving parties
  • Christenings and family parties
  • Markets and community events

By rail: Shadwell has its own station, Wapping station.

What your quote should include

  • VAT, if it applies
  • The caterer’s food hygiene rating
  • How many staff are serving, and for how long
  • The venue requirements

How to compare caterers

Planning the serving area

Plenty of outdoor spaces and venues work for us, but a few things matter:

  • Space for a taco-bar table if you’ve chosen one
  • Power and water arrangements, confirmed with each booking
  • A route in that is wide and tall enough, with soft ground checked in advance

In Shadwell, as everywhere in Greater London, the ULEZ applies and kerb space is limited. Where will the truck or trailer stop? A drive, a courtyard or a suspended bay can all work.

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Questions from Shadwell

Which station should guests use for Shadwell?

Wapping station, in Shadwell itself.

Is it possible to have you in Russia Dock Woodland?

Only if the landowner, often the council, allows it. Check with them, and we will provide what they ask for from us.

Do you serve in the rain?

Rain does not stop service from the hatch. Have somewhere covered ready for guests.

What is mobile Mexican catering?

We arrive with our own mobile kitchen. We set up, serve your guests and clear away when service ends.

What do you need at the venue?

A level, firm spot for the truck or trailer, with access wide and high enough to drive in, plus the venue’s permission. Power and water arrangements are confirmed with each booking.

How big an event can you cater?

Our truck and trailer service typically suits events of around 50 to 400 guests. Smaller parties are quoted case by case, and festivals can be larger. Tell us your numbers.

How many guests can you cater for?

Truck and trailer service normally suits around 50 to 400 guests. Bigger festivals and smaller parties are looked at case by case.

How much does Mexican catering cost?

There is no fixed price list, as each event is different. Tell us your numbers and plans and we’ll send a quote for your event.

Should I do it myself?

Some hosts like to do it themselves. The usual problems are cold tortillas, running out of a popular filling and a host stuck at the stove. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the serving.

For a small group, a taco night at home can work well. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and handles allergen information for you.

Quesadillas

A quesadilla is an easy favourite, and they go down well with children.

Burritos and burrito bowls

Rice, beans, a filling and toppings rolled in a large tortilla, or served as a bowl instead.

How it compares

Compared with a hog roast or barbecue, Mexican street food is easier for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free guests, because fillings and toppings are kept separate. Access, parking and the distance to your venue can affect the price, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. The full price is confirmed in your quote.
