How our Mexican catering works in South Down

We plan each menu with the client, so fillings might include slow-cooked pork carnitas, chicken tinga or beef birria, and vegan options like spiced mushrooms or black beans. At family celebrations and fairs and festivals, we can serve loaded nachos, a build-your-own taco bar and quesadillas for your guests.

In a small place like South Down, events are usually in a garden, a field or a nearby hall. Country lanes, long drives and gates are fine if we know about them, and soft ground after rain is worth mentioning. We’ll check the space, access and power with you before the day, so there are no surprises on arrival.

What happens on the day

Once service is over, we pack down and clear our own area. Set-up and pack-down times are agreed with you and the venue. A December event in South Down will be in the dark from about 4:00pm, so choose a spot where guests can see what they’re ordering. At midsummer, the light holds until around 9:25pm.

  1. Share the date, the venue and how many are coming.
  2. Together we plan a menu around your guests’ diets.
  3. We check the route in and where the truck or trailer will stand.
  4. Food is served from the hatch or a taco-bar table.
  5. After the last serving, we clear our area.

Preparing for the day

  • Send us final numbers and dietary needs in good time
  • Plan a covered area for guests if rain is likely
  • Ask the venue about power and water

Choosing a Mexican caterer

South Down: your questions answered

Do you come out to small places like South Down?

Yes. Villages and hamlets are part of our area, and the main thing is access: tell us about the lane, the gate and the ground.

Can you cater a reception after a service at Church of All Saints?

Yes. The church itself is not where we’d set up, but a hall, field or garden close by with room for the truck or trailer can work well. Let us know the reception address and we will check the access.

Can you cater in a back garden?

That depends on access. A drive or a spot nearby may work, with permission, if the garden itself is out of reach. Tell us about the space and we will advise.

What food and drinks do you offer?

We agree a sample menu with each client. Fillings might include chicken tinga, pork carnitas, al pastor-style pork and vegan options like black beans. Our sample menu has more ideas.

Can you plan for allergies?

Our menus are planned with allergies in mind, nut allergies included, with allergen information for every dish. We keep options separate, but we can’t promise anything is completely allergen-free. Guests with severe allergies should talk to us before the event.

Can you run a bar?

Yes. Our drinks bar can be booked on its own or with food, with alcohol-free options such as aguas frescas. We will check the licensing for alcohol with you.

When should we book?

The sooner the better. Peak dates go quickly, so it pays to ask early.

How many guests can you cater for?

It depends on the event. As a guide, it’s around 50 to 400 guests; tell us your numbers and we will plan around them.

Planning the serving area

Every venue is different, so we ask about the space before we confirm. In general, we need:

  • Space for guests to queue
  • A flat, firm spot where the truck or trailer can stand
  • A spot for a taco-bar serving table

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we will advise before you book.

Popular choices

  • Build-your-own taco bar
  • Burrito bowls
  • Loaded nachos
  • Quesadillas

Larger events can cost less per head, since the set-up is much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.
