Diets, allergies and planning

Most events have a mix of diets. To cater well for them:

  • Flag anyone with coeliac disease
  • Give us separate numbers for children
  • Ask the venue whether food trucks are allowed
  • Plan somewhere covered for guests to eat if it rains

On the day, we arrive in good time to park up and get ready. Someone from the venue just needs to point us to the agreed spot.

Quesadillas go down well with children, because they’re simple.

Mexican catering in Wash Common, served fresh

Tacos are the heart of the menu: warmed tortillas, a choice of fillings, and salsas, guacamole and toppings to finish. Burritos, burrito bowls, loaded nachos and quesadillas can sit alongside them. We serve burritos, tacos and burrito bowls, which works well for engagement and anniversary parties and festivals, fairs and markets.

For a place the size of Wash Common, your own garden or drive is often the best venue: no venue to hire and no cooking for you. Let us know about the route to the house. Everything is prepared fresh for your event and served from our food truck or trailer, so guests get it at its best.

Planning the serving area

Everything is served from our food truck or trailer, so where we park matters. These are the things we check:

  • A spot away from buildings, windows and neighbours
  • A clear area in front of the hatch for a queue
  • Room for a serving table for the taco bar

What happens on the day

Expect a friendly, organised team. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, get the serving area ready, and get on with serving. A December event in Wash Common will be in the dark from about 4:00pm, so choose a spot where guests can see what they’re ordering. At midsummer, the light holds until around 9:25pm.

  1. First, send us your date, venue, numbers and any diets we should know about.
  2. You get a suggested menu, with fillings agreed with you, and a quote.
  3. Together we confirm where the truck or trailer will park, plus power and water.
  4. On the day we arrive, set up and serve hot food from our food truck or trailer.
  5. Once everyone has eaten, we tidy our serving area and head off.

Preparing for the day

Catering an event in Wash Common

Wash Common is about 2 miles south-west of Newbury, in West Berkshire. Tell us where your event in Wash Common will be, and we’ll plan access and set-up before the day. We cover 155 places in West Berkshire. You can also see our page for Reading, about 17 miles away.

Before you pencil in Sandleford Priory, find out who manages it: driving a truck onto parkland and selling food there both need their agreement. If you’re celebrating after a service at a church like St Luke Church, a truck or trailer parked at a hall or garden close by can serve the meal.

Here we cover the RG14 and RG20 postcode area, and we can cater your event anywhere in it with access for the truck or trailer. We can cater an event on streets such as Battle Road, Stuart Road and Warren Road or the roads around them. For events just outside Wash Common, we cover Wash Water (1 mile south-west), Enborne Row (1 mile south-west), Skinners Green (1 mile north-west), Newtown Common (1 mile south-east) and Sandleford (1 mile east). Within a short drive, we also cover Thatcham (4 miles north-east), Burghfield Common (12 miles east), Hungerford (8 miles west), Calcot (14 miles east), Lambourn (12 miles north-west) and Shaw (3 miles north-east).

How we price Mexican catering

Each event is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Adding food to drinks, or drinks to food
  • What’s on the menu
  • How many staff you need
  • Travel, parking and access

A food truck can be a practical alternative to plated catering, because it needs no venue kitchen. Ask us for a quote.

Getting an accurate quote

To speed things up, tell us:

  • Your date and when you want service to start
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • Your menu ideas

Every quote is put together for your event. Give us your date and numbers, and we’ll confirm whether we’re available that day.

Wash Common: your questions answered

Could you serve in Sandleford Priory?

It depends on the park’s owner, who would need to agree to a catering vehicle on site. Ask them first; if they say yes, we’ll send what they need from us.

Is Wash Common close to London?

It’s about 55 miles from central London, and inside the area we cover.

What guest numbers do you cater for?

It depends on the event. Most bookings fall around 50 to 400 guests, but tell us your numbers and we will take it from there.

Do you cook on site?

We cook to order in our food truck or trailer kitchen, or serve from a taco bar. Slow-cooked fillings are prepared in advance and kept hot on site.

Where do you cater?

We cater across London and the South East, West Berkshire included. Find your area.

Can we have a build-your-own taco bar?

We can. A build-your-own taco bar can be served from the truck or a serving station, with fillings, salsas and toppings to choose from.

Can you cater for special diets?

Yes. There are vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free options, and corn tortillas suit gluten-free guests. We give allergen information for every dish.

Can you serve in the rain?

The truck or trailer can serve in the rain, but guests need somewhere covered to eat and drink, such as a marquee, gazebo or nearby building.
