Planning the serving area

Many gardens, fields and venues can take a truck or trailer, but there are a few things to check:

  • Some distance from houses and neighbours
  • Power and water, which we confirm with you for each booking
  • Agreement from the venue for our bar

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we’ll advise.

How it works

Once service is over, we pack down and clear our own area. We agree set-up and pack-down times with you and your venue. At midsummer, it’s light in Charing until about 9:15pm, ideal for drinks outdoors. In late September it’s dark around 7:00pm, and in December by about 3:50pm, so evening bars need lighting.

  1. We check availability.
  2. You get a suggested drinks list.
  3. We agree where the bar goes.
  4. We set up and serve on cue.
  5. We tidy up at the end.

Before we arrive

  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to park
  • Arrange somewhere covered for guests to eat
  • Name one person we can ask on the day

Our caterer checklist

A Mexican drinks bar in Charing: local tips

Charing is about 6 miles north-west of Ashford, in Kent. For an event in Charing, we can serve in gardens, fields, venues, car parks and courtyards with access in and around Charing. Charing is one of 922 towns and villages in Kent where we can bring Mexican bar hire. We cater right across the region, from Charing to Canterbury (about 13 miles away).

Serving alcohol in Spuckles and Kennelling Woods would need the owner’s permission and probably a licence, so a garden or venue is often simpler. Once the ceremony at a church like Church of St Peter and St Paul is over, guests may be glad of a cold drink at the reception venue. An outdoor bar near the Kent Downs National Landscape, within about 7 miles of Charing, needs firm ground and a way in, plus the right licensing, which we will check with you.

For Mexican bar hire in TN27, we plan around your venue and the route in and timings. Whether your event is on The High Street, Market Place and Station Road or a nearby road, we can bring Mexican bar hire there, given access. For events just outside Charing, we cover Charing Heath (1 mile west), Cold Harbour (2 miles north-west), Lenham Heath (2 miles west), Stonebridge Green (2 miles west) and Lenham Forstal (3 miles west). Larger places within reach include Maidstone (12 miles west), Ashford (6 miles south-east), Canterbury (13 miles east), Sittingbourne (9 miles north), Whitstable (14 miles north-east) and Faversham (8 miles north-east).

Other landmarks nearby include Coldbridge Castle (4.3 miles west).

  • Nearby, you will find King's Head Public House (under half a mile north-east)

Planning drinks for every guest

To get the most from the bar, it helps to:

  • Ask your venue about its licence early
  • Serve food alongside the drinks
  • Share taxi numbers with guests
  • Ask guests about allergies

We adapt if the timings shift.

Pair the bar with tacos, burritos and nachos.

DIY taco night or a caterer?

If you do it yourself, work out quantities first: see how many tacos per person. Keep tortillas warm in a covered basket, and label dishes for guests with allergies.

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up in the kitchen. Booking a caterer means you can relax with everyone else.

Charing questions

Do you come to events in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

We do, where the venue allows a catering vehicle. Lanes can be narrow and ground soft, so tell us how we’d get in.

Is it possible to have you in Spuckles and Kennelling Woods?

Only if the landowner, often the council, allows it. Ask them first, and we will help with the information they need from us.

What about power on site?

Let us know what’s available on site, such as a supply from the venue near where we will park, and we’ll confirm the arrangements with your quote.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

Yes, gluten-free options are available, made with corn tortillas. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we can talk through how their food is prepared.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends. Even if it’s short notice, it is worth asking.

Do we need a licence for the bar?

Alcohol at an event needs the venue’s premises licence or a Temporary Event Notice. We check the licensing with you before the day. See GOV.UK for Temporary Event Notices.

Do you cook on site?

We cook to order in our truck or trailer kitchen, or serve from a taco bar. Slow-cooked fillings are prepared in advance and kept hot on site.

Do you do margaritas?

Yes, we run a Mexican drinks bar, serving margaritas, Mexican beer, aguas frescas such as hibiscus and horchata, and soft drinks. Alcohol at an event may need a licence, such as a premises licence or a Temporary Event Notice, so we’ll check the licensing with you.
