DIY taco night versus a caterer

Running your own drinks table is one option, but someone still has to mix, pour and keep an eye on it all evening. See our margarita bar guide.

Plenty of people try a DIY taco night at home. Common snags are cold tortillas, uneven quantities and the host missing the party. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the serving.

Planning the bar

Some planning tips for the drinks:

  • Pair the bar with hot food
  • Agree bar timings in advance
  • Plan any Temporary Event Notice well ahead
  • Tell us how many guests are under 18

We set up the bar before guests arrive, so drinks are ready when you are.

Ask us about glassware or cups and we’ll confirm the options with your quote.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we position the truck or trailer and get the serving area ready. Service starts at the time we’ve agreed, planned around your event. At midsummer, it is light in Northiam until about 9:15pm, ideal for drinks outdoors. By late September, sunset is about 7:00pm, and in December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so plan lighting around the bar.

  1. Send us your date, venue, numbers and drinks ideas.
  2. We go through the licensing with you: the venue’s licence or a Temporary Event Notice.
  3. We put together a drinks menu, with alcohol-free choices, and quote for it.
  4. On the day, our bar staff serve drinks responsibly at the agreed times.
  5. We pack away when the bar shuts and leave the area tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Choose a level, firm spot for the truck or trailer
  • Let us know the timings for the day
  • Confirm the venue allows outside caterers
