DIY taco night versus a caterer

Not sure whether to do it yourself or book a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. Contact us for a quote to compare.

A DIY taco night is possible for a crowd, but it’s more work than it looks. Fillings need slow cooking, tortillas need warming as you go, and salsas need making. Our taco bar guide explains how.

Mexican street food in Whitwell, from our food truck or trailer

Our food is easy to eat standing up or on the grass. It suits school fairs and fundraisers and hospitality and crew areas, with vegan tacos, burrito bowls and tacos.

For a village fête or field event near Whitwell, a truck or trailer brings hot food to a rural site. Ground conditions and access matter, so tell us about them. Food and drinks can be booked together or separately, so one caterer can cover more of the day.

Catering for every guest

Every guest is catered for, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan included. To make it work smoothly:

  • Tell traders about power and water before the day
  • Ask about peak-time capacity
  • Provide seating near the food
  • Check allergen information is on display

Crew meals are served at set times.

Aguas frescas and soft drinks at the stall.

For event organisers in Whitwell

Throwing a party at home? Send a photo of the space and tell us about access, and we’ll tell you honestly whether a truck or trailer will fit.

Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we’ll keep everyone informed on the day.

The process

When service finishes, we pack down and clear our own area. Set-up and pack-down times are agreed with you and the venue. A December market in Whitwell loses the light at about 4:00pm, so a lit pitch helps visitors find the truck. By contrast, a midsummer fair stays light until about 9:20pm.

  1. Organisers send us the event details, dates and pitch information.
  2. We send our menu, pitch requirements and the documents you ask traders for.
  3. We arrive at the agreed time and set up on our pitch.
  4. We serve from the hatch through the trading times you set.
  5. When trading ends, we pack down and leave the pitch clean.

Before we arrive

  • Plan a covered area for guests if rain is likely
  • Check gates and access routes are wide and high enough
  • Choose a level, firm spot for the truck or trailer

Whitwell questions

Could you come to a seaside event near Whitwell?

Yes, with permission for the spot and firm ground for the truck or trailer. Wind, sand and seafront permissions are the main things to plan on the coast.

What’s the nearest station to Whitwell for guests?

Guests can use Shanklin station, about 4.5 miles north-east of Whitwell.

What areas do you cover?

We cater across London and the South East, the Isle of Wight included. See all areas.

Do you have dairy-free options?

Yes. We offer dairy-free options.

Who clears up?

We pack down and leave our area tidy. Tell us the venue’s rules on waste and clearing up and we’ll confirm the arrangements with your quote.

Do you do a taco bar?

We can. A build-your-own taco bar can be served from the truck or a serving station, with fillings, salsas and toppings to choose from. Read our taco bar guide.

Can you come to a private house?

That depends on access. If the truck or trailer cannot reach the garden, a drive or a spot nearby may work, with permission. Tell us about the space and we’ll advise.

Do you need water?

Send pitch details and we’ll confirm.

What affects the price in Whitwell

Every event is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • Serving staff
  • Food, drinks or both
  • Travel, parking and access
  • Plates, napkins and cutlery

There is no one-size-fits-all price for Mexican street food. A simple party menu and a full wedding day are very different jobs. Contact us for a quote.

What we need to know

The more we know about your event, the better we can plan. Try to include:

  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • A picture of where we’d park
  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • Your menu ideas

Each quote is tailored to your event. Tell us your date and guest numbers, and we’ll confirm whether we’re available that day.

Comparing your options

Burger and hot dog stalls are familiar but similar. Tacos add something different. The price depends on guest numbers, the menu and how long you’d like us to serve, plus any add-ons and the location. Every event gets its own quote.

Why book with us

  • Tacos, burritos and a drinks bar
  • We cover Whitwell and the whole of the Isle of Wight
  • Service planned around your numbers
  • A plan agreed before the day
