Dietary needs and planning tips

A little planning makes sure everyone can eat. Try these:

  • Plan access routes for trader vehicles
  • Ask about peak-time capacity
  • Give traders a single information pack
  • Check traders’ packaging and waste plans

We clear the pitch and leave it as we found it.

About our Mexican street food in Puckaster

Our food is easy to eat standing up or on the grass. For seasonal and night markets and open days and community events, we can serve loaded nachos, vegan tacos and burrito bowls.

Near Puckaster, events may be far from shops and cafés, so a hot-food truck is a big help. We arrive ready to serve, and clear our own area when service is finished.

How it works

From set-up to service, we look after everything you’ve booked from us, so you can spend time with your guests. Christmas markets in Puckaster trade in the dark from about 4:00pm, so a lit pitch helps visitors find the truck. By contrast, a midsummer fair stays light until about 9:20pm.

  1. Send the event name, expected visitors and pitch size.
  2. We reply with our stall menu and what we need on site.
  3. We confirm power, water and access arrangements.
  4. We plan to be ready for the lunchtime rush.
  5. When trading ends, the pitch is cleared and left clean.

How to prepare

  • Have a marquee or gazebo ready in case of rain
  • Let us know the timings for the day
  • Measure any gates or arches on the way in

How to get a price

Every event is quoted individually, so the price fits what you actually want. For a quote, drop us a line using the enquiry form.

Puckaster events: pitches and permissions

Puckaster is about 6 miles south-west of Shanklin, in the Isle of Wight. From the centre of Puckaster to the outskirts, we offer the same service: fresh service from our truck or trailer, every diet planned for and a clear quote. We cater in all 125 towns and villages across the Isle of Wight. Our truck and trailer cover the area from Puckaster to Portsmouth (about 18 miles away).

For a church fête or fundraiser, at a church such as Church of St. John the Baptist, a taco truck adds hot food to the cakes and tombola. With the sea within about 4 miles, we plan for wind at coastal events, on firm ground rather than sand.

We serve at events all over PO38 and the streets around it. Whether your event is on Puckaster Lane and Undercliff Drive or anywhere nearby, we can bring Mexican street food there, given access. For events just outside Puckaster, we cover Niton (1 mile north), Blackgang (1 mile north-west), Bierley (1 mile north), Whitwell (2 miles north-east) and Nettlecombe (2 miles north-east). Larger places within reach include Newport (8 miles north), Ryde (11 miles north-east), Cowes (12 miles north), Sandown (7 miles north-east), Shanklin (6 miles north-east) and Ventnor (3 miles east). Remote venues take a little more planning, so ask early about your event.

Nearby you will also find Arthur Webster Memorial Hospital for Children (5.9 miles north-east) and Blackgang Sawmill Museum (1.5 miles north-west). Not far away are Stenbury Down.

  • Local pubs include The Buddle Inn (under half a mile west)

Should I do it myself?

Some hosts like to do it themselves. Common snags are cold tortillas, uneven quantities and the host missing the party. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us serve.

If you do it yourself, work out quantities first: see how many tacos per person. Keep tortillas warm in a covered basket, and label dishes for guests with allergies.

Organising for someone else?

If you are organising for someone else, whether you are a planner, an office manager or an event organiser, we’ll work directly with you and the venue. It keeps things simple.

Throwing a party at home? Send a photo of the space and tell us about access, and we’ll let you know if it is a good fit.

Questions to ask before booking

Puckaster questions

Do you come to school fairs around Puckaster?

Yes, with the school’s permission and a pitch the truck or trailer can reach. Tell us the date and pitch details.

Do you cater in villages like Puckaster?

Yes, small places are no problem, given access. Let us know about access and parking for the truck or trailer.

Is the food made fresh?

Fillings are slow-cooked in advance, then finished and kept hot on site. The tortillas are warmed on site, and the salsas and guacamole are made fresh.

How much is a food truck for an event?

Every event is quoted individually, so the price fits what you want. Tell us your date and numbers and we’ll reply with a quote.

Do you come to Puckaster?

We do. Puckaster is one of the places we cover. Tell us your date and we’ll check availability.

Do you take everything away?

We pack down and tidy our own area after service. For anything beyond that, such as guests’ tables, ask us.

What do you serve?

We agree a sample menu with each client. Fillings could include chicken tinga, pork carnitas, al pastor-style pork and vegan options like black beans. See our menu for ideas.

Do you have options for kids?

Yes, children are easy to plan for. Tell us how many and roughly how old, and we will suggest mild options.

Mexican street food or something else?

Food that sits in a hot cabinet is not much to look at. Our food is made to order. Got a budget? Let us know, and we will suggest a menu that fits. Even a simple menu can feel generous.

What you get with us

  • Allergen-aware menus
  • A menu agreed with you
  • Catering across the Isle of Wight, including Puckaster
  • Quoted for your event

Take a look at our prices page and the cost guide.

Planning the serving area

Before the day, we’ll agree where we park and serve. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • Spacing from tents and other structures
  • Flat, firm ground
  • Pitch space for the vehicle and a queue

For somewhere as remote as Puckaster, early notice helps us plan the trip, the route in and power.

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly.
