Cheam weddings: local tips

Cheam is about 1 mile south-west of Sutton, in Greater London. From the centre of Cheam to the outskirts, we offer the same service: fresh service from our food truck or trailer, every diet planned for and a clear quote. Cheam is one of 764 places in Greater London we cover. We cater right across the region, from Cheam to London (12 miles away).

If you’re marrying at a church near Cheam, such as Church of St Andrew, a reception in a garden, field or venue nearby keeps the day flowing. Around Cheam, historic houses include Nonsuch Mansion (1 mile north-west) and Fitznells Manor (1.8 miles west). A listed house can make a beautiful backdrop, but many have firm rules on vehicles, so raise the food truck with them at your first visit. With the Surrey Hills National Landscape within about 8 miles, there are country venues, barns and gardens nearby. Ask your venue about vehicle access and ground conditions for a truck or trailer.

Here we cover the SM2, SM3 and SM1 postcode area. Whether your wedding is on Wray Road, York Road and The Avenue or anywhere nearby, we will plan where to park and serve. Nearby, we also cater weddings in Belmont (1 mile south-east), Cuddington (1 mile north-west), North Looe (1 mile south-west), North Cheam (2 miles north) and Nork (2 miles south). We also cater in nearby towns such as London (12 miles north-east), City of Westminster (12 miles north), Marylebone (12 miles north), Kensington (11 miles north), St Pancras (13 miles north) and Shoreditch (14 miles north-east).

A little further out are Municipal Borough of Sutton and Cheam (1 mile north-east) and Chessington Castle Hill (3.5 miles west). Open spaces near Cheam include Duppas Hill and Belmont Pastures.

  • Schools near Cheam include Avenue Primary Academy (0.5 miles south-east) and Overton Grange School (0.7 miles north-east)

Wedding Mexican catering in Cheam, served fresh

Our food truck or trailer suits marquee, barn and garden weddings, as long as we can drive in safely and park on level ground. For vow renewals and blessings and receptions after a small ceremony, we will put together a menu of evening tacos, a taco bar for the wedding breakfast and loaded nachos for your guests.

For a wedding in Cheam, a taco bar for the wedding breakfast or tacos as evening food can both work. Narrow streets mean we plan where the truck or trailer stops, and a parking suspension may be needed at some venues. You’ll know what’s included before booking: menu, timings and any add-ons.

Planning for every diet

A Mexican menu is easy to plan for mixed diets, because options can be kept separate. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Let us know about severe allergies in writing
  • Enquire early for summer Saturdays
  • Add a dietary question to your RSVP cards
  • Have cover for guests if the weather turns

We serve evening food when the running order says, such as after the cake is cut.

Nachos to share work well later in the evening.

DIY taco night or a caterer?

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party serving. Booking a caterer means you can relax with everyone else.

Not sure whether to do it yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Contact us for a quote to compare.

Organising for someone else?

Venues often have their own rules about outside caterers: vehicle access, arrival times and documents. Send us your venue’s requirements and we will follow them.

If you are booking for a business, tell us what your finance team needs, and we will explain how it works. We are happy to liaise with facilities on access and timings.

Cheam: your questions answered

Can you bring a truck or trailer to venues in the Surrey Hills National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles, ground and catering, so check with yours. We’ll follow the site rules.

Is it possible to have you in Howell Hill?

It depends on the park’s owner, who would need to agree to a catering vehicle on site. Ask them first; if they say yes, we’ll send what they need from us.

Can you do dairy-free food?

Yes. Dairy-free options are part of our menus, and we’ll tell you which dishes contain milk.

Do you provide drinks?

Yes. The drinks bar can be added to food or booked on its own. For alcohol, we will go through the licensing with you and your venue.

What food and drinks do you offer?

We agree a sample menu with each client. Fillings could include slow-cooked pork carnitas, chicken tinga, beef birria and vegan options such as spiced mushrooms or black beans. See our menu for ideas.

Is the food made fresh?

We cook to order in our truck or trailer kitchen, or serve from a taco bar. Slow-cooked fillings are prepared in advance and kept hot on site.

Can you cater for all our guests’ diets?

We can. There are vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free options, and corn tortillas suit gluten-free guests, and we give allergen information for every dish.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We clear our own area when service is finished. Ask us if you’d like help with anything else.

Planning the serving area

We will be honest if a space will not work, and help find another spot. The main points are:

  • Details of power and water on site, agreed when you book
  • A clear area in front of the hatch for a queue
  • A sensible distance from buildings and neighbours

In Cheam, as everywhere in Greater London, the ULEZ applies and kerb space is limited. Where will the truck or trailer stop? A drive, a courtyard or a suspended bay can all work.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we’ll advise before booking.

The process

Here’s how the day normally runs: we arrive and set up, service opens at the agreed time, and we serve your guests fresh for the agreed time. In Cheam, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:05pm, which means evening food is normally served in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:55pm.

  1. Send us your wedding date, venue and numbers.
  2. Together we plan the food for your day.
  3. We agree timings and access with the venue.
  4. On the day, we set up and serve on cue.
  5. We clear our area once service ends.

Preparing for the day

  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to park
  • Ask the venue about power and water
  • Send us final numbers and dietary needs in good time

Getting a price

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many guests, along with any dietary needs, and you’ll get menu ideas and a price. To get started, drop us a line using the enquiry form.

How it compares

If you are weighing up a taco bar against a traditional menu, think about your venue, your guests’ diets and the feel of the day. The price depends on guest numbers, the menu and how long you’d like us to serve, along with extras and where your event is. Every event gets its own quote.
