About our Mexican catering in Bilting

Few things get guests chatting like a build-your-own taco bar. Guests fill their own tortillas from the fillings, salsas and toppings, so each plate is exactly how they like it. At charity and school events and markets and community events, we will put together a menu of burrito bowls, quesadillas and a build-your-own taco bar and more.

In a hamlet or village like Bilting, your own garden or a neighbour’s field can make a good venue. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. We serve from the hatch of our food truck or trailer, or from a serving station, and we plan the service around your numbers.

Planning the serving area

We serve from a truck or trailer, so where we park matters. Here’s what we look for:

  • Room for a serving table for the taco bar
  • Power and water, which we confirm with you for each booking
  • Room for a queue in front of the serving hatch

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we will advise before booking.

For planners, venues and organisers

Venues often have their own rules about outside caterers: vehicle access, arrival times and documents. Send us your venue’s requirements and we will follow them.

For repeat events, such as annual staff parties or seasonal fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can plan ahead.

Occasions we cater for in Bilting

Tacos and burritos go down well with most crowds: it’s familiar, filling and easy to eat standing up or sitting down.

Almost any gathering can work with a truck or trailer. In Bilting, you could book us for events such as:

  • Engagement and anniversary parties
  • Christenings and family parties
  • Garden parties
  • Staff parties and office lunches

A school such as Wye School running a summer fair or fundraiser could book a taco truck.

Questions to ask before booking

  • When final numbers are due
  • A clear list of what’s included
  • Any travel, parking or access charges
  • The caterer’s food hygiene rating

How to compare caterers

Catering for every guest

Allergies and diets are taken seriously. Here’s how you can help:

  • Plan somewhere covered for guests to eat if it rains
  • Add a dietary question to your RSVP
  • Include at least one vegan filling
  • Confirm the venue is happy to have a catering vehicle

Food is served from the hatch, order by order, so everything goes out hot.

Extra salsas and toppings can widen the choice.

Step by step

Your timings come first. If things run behind, tell us and we will adjust the start of service where we can. Daylight in Bilting runs to about 8:45pm in late May and 7:00pm in late September. If your event carries on later, tell us what lighting the venue has.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and venue.
  2. Together we plan a menu around your guests’ diets.
  3. We check the route in and where the truck or trailer will stand.
  4. Food is served from the hatch or a taco-bar table.
  5. We clear our serving area when everyone is fed.

Preparing for the day

  • Give us your final numbers and diets
  • Tell us when you want service to start
  • Have a marquee or gazebo ready in case of rain

How to get a price

Common questions in Bilting

Which station should guests use for Bilting?

Wye station, about 1.7 miles south of the centre.

Can you cater a reception after a service at Church of St Lawrence?

Yes. The church itself is not where we’d set up, but a hall, field or garden close by with room for the truck or trailer can work well. Let us know the reception address and we will check the access.

Can you come to a private house?

That depends on access. If the truck or trailer cannot reach the garden, a drive or a spot nearby may work, with permission. Tell us about the space and we’ll advise.

Do you cater for big events?

Truck and trailer service usually suits around 50 to 400 guests. Festivals can be bigger, and smaller parties are quoted case by case.

How much space do you need?

The main things are access and a level spot: a level spot to park, space for guests to queue and a little room for a serving table. Send us a photo and tell us about gates, slopes and soft ground.

Do you provide plates and napkins?

Ask us when you enquire. Tell us what your venue provides, and we’ll confirm what’s included with your quote.

Do you have dairy-free options?

Yes, on request. Let us know your dairy-free numbers, and we’ll plan the menu around them.

What areas do you cover?

We cover London and the South East, Kent included. See all areas.

Can I do a taco night myself?

A DIY taco night is possible for a crowd, but it is more work than it looks. Fillings need slow cooking, tortillas need warming as you go, and salsas need making. Read our guide to taco bars.

If you do it yourself, work out quantities first: see how many tacos per person. Keep tortillas warm in a covered basket, and label anything containing allergens.

Is Mexican catering right for your event?

A plated meal needs a kitchen and a larger team. Our food truck or trailer brings its own kitchen, and needs a suitable spot, safe access and the venue’s agreement. Larger events can cost less per head, because the set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Give us your numbers and we will quote.
