About the menu

Tacos

Tacos are the classic street food of Mexico. We serve them with salsas and toppings, and corn tortillas suit gluten-free guests.

Quesadillas

Tortillas filled with melted cheese and a filling, toasted until crisp.

How our Mexican catering works in Freshwater

Keep it simple or go further: a taco menu, or tacos plus loaded nachos, quesadillas and burrito bowls. Margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas can come from our drinks bar, with licensing checked with you. At charity and school events and garden parties, we can serve loaded nachos, tacos and a build-your-own taco bar.

There may be a hall or club near Freshwater if your garden is small; a truck or trailer can work at any of them, with permission and a level spot. We plan the timings around your day, whether that is speeches, a lunch break or a festival schedule.

How it works

We work to your timings. If speeches run late or the photos take longer, tell us and we will adjust the start of service where we can. Evenings in Freshwater stay light until about 9:20pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm. Festoon lights or floodlights help once it gets dark.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and venue.
  2. Together we plan a menu around your guests’ diets.
  3. We confirm the way in and where we will park.
  4. Guests order at the hatch or build their own at the taco bar.
  5. After the last serving, we clear our area.

Prices and what affects them

The same guest numbers can mean different prices, depending on:

  • Adding food to drinks, or drinks to food
  • How many guests we are serving
  • Your choice of food and drinks
  • Parking and the route in

Access, parking and the distance to your venue can affect the price, so it helps to tell us about your venue. The full price is confirmed in your quote.

Getting an accurate quote

Good planning starts with a few facts. Please include:

  • Your date and when you want service to start
  • A picture of where we’d park
  • What you’d like on the menu
  • The venue or postcode

Freshwater: your questions answered

Could you come to a seaside event near Freshwater?

Yes, as long as the site allows it and the ground is firm. Wind, sand and seafront permissions are the main things to plan on the coast.

We’re having a ceremony at All Saints' Church: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall with access for the truck or trailer. Service would be at the reception venue, not the church. Tell us where the reception will be.

What if it rains?

Rain does not stop service from the hatch. Plan a marquee, gazebo or indoor space for guests to eat in.

Can you do dairy-free food?

We can. Dairy-free options are part of our menus.

Do you come to Freshwater?

We do. Freshwater is one of the places we cover. Tell us your date and we will check availability.

What areas do you cover?

London and South East England: Greater London, Kent and Medway, Surrey, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

Do you give allergen information?

Our menus are planned with allergies in mind, nut allergies included, with allergen information for every dish. We plan carefully and keep options separate, though we cannot promise a dish is allergen-free. Guests with severe allergies should talk to us before the event.

How far ahead should we book?

The sooner the better. Popular dates go first, so it pays to ask early.

What we need at the venue

Access is the first thing to check for a truck or trailer. We look for:

  • Power and water, which we confirm with you for each booking
  • Hardstanding or firm, level ground to park on
  • Clear vehicle access: gate widths, height limits and the ground checked before the day

For somewhere as remote as Freshwater, early notice helps us plan the trip, the route in and power.

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Dietary needs and planning tips

Allergies and diets are taken seriously. Help us by following these steps:

  • Count children separately
  • Think about cover for guests in wet weather
  • Make sure the menu has a vegan option
  • Ask guests with severe allergies to talk to us before the event

We work around your timings, and adapt if they move.

Add our Mexican drinks bar, with margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas.

Is Mexican catering right for your event?

Cold buffets are easy, but the food sits out. Our food is served hot, one order at a time. Catering from a truck or trailer can be a practical alternative to a sit-down meal, as there’s no kitchen to hire. Ask us for a quote.

What you get with us

  • Everything served fresh from the hatch
  • Tacos, burritos and a drinks bar
  • A menu built around your guests
  • Access, space and power checked in advance

Mexican catering around Freshwater

Freshwater is about 5 miles south of Lymington, in the Isle of Wight. For an event in Freshwater, we can park up at venues, fields, drives and courtyards in and around Freshwater. We cover all 125 towns and villages in the Isle of Wight, from the larger towns to small villages, wherever the truck or trailer can get in. Our nearest city page is Southampton, about 17 miles away.

Close to Freshwater are historic houses such as Mottistone Manor (4.6 miles south-east). Venues like these often limit where vehicles can go, so ask about access before you book one. If you’re celebrating after a service at a church like All Saints' Church, a truck or trailer parked at a hall or garden close by can serve the meal. With the sea within about a mile, a beach-side event might appeal. Promenades and beaches typically need permission, and the truck or trailer has to park on firm ground, not sand.

We serve at events all over PO40 and the streets around it. Local streets include Dall Square, High Street and The Square; for an event at home on any of them, tell us where the truck or trailer can park. Other places close to Freshwater for Mexican catering include Easton (1 mile south-east), Colwell (1 mile north-west), Norton Green (1 mile north), Afton (1 mile south-east) and Totland (1 mile west). Larger places within reach include Newport (10 miles east), Cowes (11 miles north-east), Shanklin (15 miles east), Ventnor (15 miles south-east), East Cowes (12 miles north-east) and Barton (10 miles east). If your event is somewhere remote, tell us early so we can plan the journey, access and power.

Well-known places in the area include Yarmouth Castle (1.9 miles north-east) and Ferguson Family Museum (0.7 miles north-east). Not far away are Lymington and Keyhaven Marshes Nature Reserve and Afton Down.

  • Pubs nearby include The Red Lion pub (0.5 miles east)

Should I do it myself?

If you do it yourself, work out quantities first: see how many tacos per person. Keep warmed tortillas covered, and label dishes for guests with allergies.

You can host your own taco night for a crowd, but it takes planning. Fillings need slow cooking, tortillas need warming as you go, and salsas need making. Our taco bar guide explains how.

  • Served from our truck or trailer at your venue, garden or event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, with allergen information
  • Tacos and taco bars, burritos, bowls, nachos and quesadillas
  • Mexican drinks bar: margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas
