Questions to ask before booking

Mexican catering in Gravel Castle, from our truck or trailer

Our truck or trailer travels to events across Gravel Castle and nearby: private gardens, venue grounds, courtyards and fields, wherever we can get in safely. For fairs and festivals and christenings and family parties, we’ll put together a menu of burrito bowls, fresh salsas and guacamole and quesadillas.

Somewhere as small as Gravel Castle, a garden or field is often the venue. Country lanes, long drives and gates are fine if we know about them, and firm ground matters, especially after rain. You can book food, drinks or both, so one caterer can cover more of the day.

How the day works

Once service is over, we pack down and clear our own area. We agree set-up and pack-down times with you and your venue. Around midsummer it stays light in Gravel Castle until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:50pm, so winter events need lighting around the truck and the queue.

  1. First, send us a few details about your event.
  2. You get a sample menu and a quote.
  3. We agree access, the serving spot, power and water.
  4. We arrive, set up and serve from the hatch.
  5. We pack down after service and leave the area tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Check gates and access routes are wide and high enough
  • Plan a covered area for guests if rain is likely
  • Choose a level, firm spot for the truck or trailer

Catering for every guest

Good planning keeps every guest safe and happy. Try these:

  • Ask guests with severe allergies to talk to us before the event
  • Plan a vegan filling as well as a vegetarian one
  • Send allergy details to us in writing
  • Let us know if a guest is coeliac

Food is served from the hatch, order by order, so it’s hot when it reaches them.

DIY taco night versus a caterer

Running your own drinks table is one option, but someone has to serve all evening. Our margarita bar guide has tips.

If you do it yourself, work out quantities first: our guide to how many tacos per person helps. Keep warmed tortillas covered, and label anything containing allergens.

Prices and what affects them

Here’s what makes the biggest difference to the price:

  • How many guests we are serving
  • Distance and access to the venue
  • Your choice of food and drinks
  • Timings and hours

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: service time, staff, plates and napkins, travel and VAT. Contact us for a quote and we will set out what’s included.

What to tell us

The more we know about your event, the better we can plan. Please include:

  • A picture of where we’d park
  • The venue or postcode
  • Gate widths, slopes and the ground
  • Approximate guest numbers, including children

A detailed enquiry gets a more accurate quote: the venue, the timings, food or drinks or both, and the access. To send your details, send us your details through our quote form.
