Mexican catering in Hilsea

Diets, allergies and planning

Most events have a mix of diets. To cater well for them:

  • Count children separately
  • Confirm allergies by email before the event
  • Collect dietary needs when guests reply
  • Plan somewhere covered for guests to eat if it rains

If timings change on the day, tell us and we’ll adjust.

Tell us if you need plates, cutlery or serving staff and we will confirm what’s possible with your quote.

How our Mexican catering works in Hilsea

We slow-cook the fillings ahead and finish them on site, and the salsas and guacamole are freshly made. Tortillas are warmed as we serve. It works well for garden parties and milestone birthdays, with fresh salsas and guacamole, burritos and burrito bowls.

For a place the size of Hilsea, your own garden or drive is often the best venue: no venue to hire and no cooking for you. Let us know about the route to the house. Timings are planned around your event, whether that’s speeches, a lunch break or a festival schedule.

Mexican catering or something else?

A plated meal needs a kitchen and a larger team. A food truck or trailer is its own kitchen, and needs a suitable spot, safe access and the venue’s agreement. Your choice of food and drinks affects the price, so share your ideas with us. Tell us your budget and we will suggest a menu.

What you get with us

  • Menus chosen with you
  • A clear quote
  • Book food, drinks or both
  • Allergen information for every dish

For larger events, we plan serving points around your timings, so guests are looked after quickly. Let us know how long the break is.

Your questions about Mexican catering in Hilsea

Which station is closest to Hilsea?

The closest is Hilsea station, roughly 0.5 miles away.

Could you serve in Alexandra Park?

Only if the landowner, often the council, allows it. Ask them first, and we’ll help with the information they need from us.

Do you provide allergen information for each dish?

Yes, and it helps to hear about allergies when you book. Under UK rules, caterers must give information on 14 allergens, and we give it for every dish (Food Standards Agency guidance). Anyone with a severe allergy should speak to us before the event.

Can you set up at our venue?

Tell us about the venue and the way in, and we’ll check it works. Space for a queue and, if you choose one, a taco-bar table helps too.

Do you cater for vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free guests?

We can. We plan vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, with corn tortillas for gluten-free guests. We give allergen information for every dish.

How does mobile Mexican catering work?

We arrive with our own mobile kitchen. We set up at your venue, serve hot food to order and pack down afterwards.

Do you provide plates and napkins?

We confirm that with your quote. Tell us whether your venue has crockery or you’d prefer disposables and we’ll talk it through.

Do you provide drinks?

Yes, we offer a Mexican drinks bar, with margaritas, Mexican beer, aguas frescas and soft drinks. Alcohol at an event may need a licence, such as a premises licence or a Temporary Event Notice, so we’ll check the licensing with you.

Catering an event in Hilsea

Hilsea is about 2 miles north of Portsmouth, in Portsmouth. From the centre of Hilsea to the outskirts, Mexican catering works the same way: a truck or trailer at your event, options for every diet and a clear price. We cater in 19 places across Portsmouth, from the larger towns to small villages. We cater right across the region, from Hilsea to Southampton (15 miles away).

Thinking of an event in Alexandra Park? Public parks normally need the landowner’s permission for a food truck, so check first. When the service is at a church such as St Francis' Church, the food normally happens elsewhere, at a field, hall or garden with room for the truck. With the sea within about 4 miles, a beach-side event might appeal. Promenades and beaches normally need permission, and the truck or trailer has to park on firm ground, not sand.

Wherever your event is in PO2, PO3 and PO6, we can bring the truck or trailer to your guests. Local streets include Vita Road, Conan Road and Arras Road; for an event at home on any of them, tell us where the truck or trailer can park. We also serve at events in Cosham (1 mile north), North End (1 mile south-west), Tipner (1 mile south-west), Wymering (1 mile north) and Rudmore (1 mile south-west). Larger places within reach include Southsea (3 miles south), Portsea (3 miles south-west) and Portsmouth Point (3 miles south-west).

Well-known places in the area include World War I Remembrance Centre (0.8 miles east) and Tricorn Centre (2.1 miles south-west). The countryside around Hilsea includes Milton Locks and Portsdown Hill.

  • Nearby schools include Trafalgar School (under half a mile north-west) and Springfield School (1.3 miles north-east)
  • Pubs nearby include Coach and Horses pub (less than half a mile north)

The process

Service is quick and friendly: guests are served at the hatch or a serving station, so a crowd is looked after quickly. Afterwards we clear our area. In Hilsea, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting around the truck and the queue.

  1. You tell us the date, the venue, rough guest numbers and any dietary needs.
  2. We suggest a sample menu and send a quote for your event.
  3. Together we confirm where the truck or trailer will park, plus power and water.
  4. On the day, we set up and serve from the truck or trailer, or from a taco-bar station.
  5. Once everyone has eaten, we tidy our serving area and head off.

Preparing for the day

  • Ask the venue about power and water
  • Plan a covered area for guests if rain is likely
  • Give us a contact for the day

About the menu

Build-your-own taco bar

A taco bar is relaxed and sociable, and guests with different diets can choose what suits them.

Burritos and burrito bowls

Rice, beans, a filling and toppings rolled in a large tortilla, or the same served in a bowl.

Should I do it myself?

Not sure whether to do it yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.

You can set up your own drinks table, but someone still has to mix, pour and keep an eye on it all evening. See our margarita bar guide.

What we need at the venue

We’ll be honest if a space won’t work, and suggest an alternative. The main points are:

  • A clear area in front of the hatch for a queue
  • A spot away from buildings, windows and neighbours
  • Level, firm ground or hardstanding for the truck or trailer

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.
