Planning the serving area

Every venue is different, so we ask about the space before we confirm. Generally, we look for:

  • A spot away from buildings, windows and neighbours
  • Agreement from the venue to bring a food truck or trailer on site
  • Access wide and high enough to drive in, with gates and soft lawns checked first

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we’ll advise.

Mexican catering in New Town, served fresh

Tacos are the heart of the menu: warmed tortillas, a choice of fillings, and salsas, guacamole and toppings to finish. Burritos, burrito bowls, loaded nachos and quesadillas can sit alongside them. Popular choices include tacos, a build-your-own taco bar and burrito bowls, which works well for garden get-togethers and wedding breakfasts and evening food.

In a hamlet or village like New Town, your own garden or a neighbour’s field can make a good venue. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Timings are planned around your event, whether that’s speeches, a lunch break or a festival schedule.

Step by step

Once service is over, we pack up and leave our area tidy. We agree set-up and pack-down times with you and your venue. Evenings in New Town stay light until about 9:25pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm. For anything running past sunset, think about lights near the hatch.

  1. First, send us a few details about your event.
  2. We suggest fillings and extras and send a quote.
  3. We agree access, the serving spot, power and water.
  4. On the day we park up, set up and serve hot food to order.
  5. We pack down after service and leave the area tidy.

If you want food that feels relaxed without being basic, a taco bar or a menu of tacos, burritos and nachos is hard to beat. A food truck can be a practical alternative to plated catering, because it needs no venue kitchen. Contact us for a quote to compare.

Taco catering in New Town: local tips

New Town is about 7 miles west of Reading, in Oxfordshire. From the centre of New Town to the outskirts, Mexican catering works the same way: fresh service from our food truck or trailer, every diet planned for and a clear quote. We serve in all 443 towns and villages across Oxfordshire, from the larger towns to small villages. Our truck and trailer cover the area from New Town to Reading (about 7 miles away).

Guests leaving a church like St Stephen's Church after a christening could walk over to a nearby garden where the tacos are ready. By rail: Pangbourne station is about 1.6 miles away. With the North Wessex Downs National Landscape about 6 miles away at most, a rural setting is never far from New Town. Country lanes there can be narrow and verges soft, so tell us about the route in.

This part of Oxfordshire takes in RG8, and we can cater your event anywhere in it with access for the truck or trailer. Local streets include Wakemans and Pangbourne Road; for an event at home on any of them, tell us where the truck or trailer can park. If your venue is just outside New Town, we also cover Upper Basildon (1 mile north-west), Stubbles (2 miles west), Burnt Hill (3 miles west), Ashampstead (3 miles west) and Ashampstead Green (3 miles west). Within a short drive, we also cover Didcot (10 miles north-west), Abingdon-on-Thames (15 miles north-west), Wantage (15 miles north-west), Henley-on-Thames (10 miles east), Benson (10 miles north) and Tilehurst (4 miles east).

A little further out are Yattendon Castle (3.5 miles west) and Battle Hospital (5.7 miles east). Green spaces nearby include Hosehill Lake and Hartslock.

  • Local schools include St Andrew's School (1 mile south)
  • Local pubs include The Beehive pub (0.5 miles west)

For event organisers in New Town

If you are booking for a business, tell us what your finance team needs, and we will talk you through the process. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

If you’re organising for someone else, whether you are a planner, an office manager or an event organiser, we’re happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It keeps things simple.

DIY taco night or a caterer?

For a small group, a taco night at home can work well. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, with allergen information for every dish.

A DIY taco night is possible for a crowd, but it is more work than it looks. Fillings need slow cooking, tortillas need warming as you go, and salsas need making. Read our guide to taco bars.

How we price Mexican catering

These are the factors that matter most:

  • Parking and the route in
  • The menu you choose
  • The length of service
  • Whether you need disposables

The price depends on guest numbers, the menu and how long you’d like us to serve, plus any add-ons and the location. We quote for each event individually.

What we need to know

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • The venue or postcode
  • The date and rough timings
  • What you’d like on the menu
  • Diets and allergies you know about

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many guests, plus any dietary needs, and we’ll reply with a menu suggestion and a quote. Just send a quick message through our quote form.

New Town: your questions answered

Do you cater in villages like New Town?

Yes, small places are no problem, given access. Tell us about lanes, gates, ground and parking.

Can you cater a reception after a service at St Stephen's Church?

Yes. The church itself isn’t where we’d set up, but a hall, field or garden close by with room for the truck or trailer can work well. Let us know the reception address and we’ll check the access.

How spicy is the food?

That is your choice: we can keep the main dishes mild, with hotter salsas served separately. Read more about how spicy Mexican food is.

Do you have gluten-free options?

Yes, we offer gluten-free options, made with corn tortillas. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we can talk through how their food is prepared.

Is the food made fresh?

We slow-cook fillings ahead, then finish them and keep them hot at your event. The tortillas are warmed on site, and the salsas and guacamole are made fresh.

Do you provide plates and napkins?

We confirm that with your quote. Tell us whether your venue has crockery or you’d prefer disposables.

What can we choose from?

Tacos, build-your-own taco bars, burritos, burrito bowls, loaded nachos and quesadillas, with salsas, guacamole and toppings. See our sample menu.

Do you have vegan options?

Yes. Vegetarian and vegan fillings, such as spiced mushrooms or black beans, can be part of the menu, served alongside the meat options.

Catering for every guest

Dietary needs are easy to plan for with a little notice. Our advice:

  • Check that your venue allows outside caterers and vehicles
  • Tell us about coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences
  • Include at least one vegan filling
  • Add a dietary question to your RSVP

If you’ve chosen a taco bar, the fillings, salsas and toppings go out on a serving table, and guests build their own.

A tray of loaded nachos works well to start or as a late snack.
