Oakfield questions

Which station is closest to Oakfield?

Guests can use Ryde St Johns Road station, which is right in Oakfield.

Could you come to a seaside event near Oakfield?

Yes, with permission for the spot and firm ground for the truck or trailer. Wind, sand and seafront permissions are the main things to plan on the coast.

What are your prices?

Every event is quoted for individually, based on guest numbers, the menu, the venue and timings. Contact us for a quote.

When do you arrive?

That depends on your event and menu. Timings are agreed in advance so everything fits your schedule.

Do you have vegan options?

Yes. We can include vegetarian and vegan fillings like black beans or spiced mushrooms.

Who clears up?

Our area is packed away and left tidy. Tell us the venue’s rules on waste and clearing up and we’ll talk it through.

What’s on the menu?

We agree a sample menu with each client. Fillings might include chicken tinga, pork carnitas, al pastor-style pork and vegan options like black beans. See our menu for ideas.

Can you cater in a back garden?

It depends on access. A drive or a spot nearby may work, with permission, if the garden itself is out of reach. Send us a picture and we’ll talk it through.

How our Mexican catering works in Oakfield

Food from a truck or trailer feels relaxed. Guests come up to the hatch, chat while they wait and take something hot back to their seats. On the menu are tacos, burritos and quesadillas, which works well for wedding breakfasts and evening food and anniversaries and engagements.

For a place the size of Oakfield, your own garden or drive is often the best venue: no venue to hire and no cooking for you. Tell us about access down the lane or drive. Guests are served from our truck or trailer, or from a serving table nearby, and we plan service so the queue keeps moving.

Planning for every diet

Nearly every event has some special diets. To cater well for them:

  • Flag anyone with coeliac disease
  • Count children separately
  • Add a dietary question to your RSVP
  • Plan a vegan filling as well as a vegetarian one

For a taco bar, we lay the fillings, salsas and toppings out on a table, and guests build their own.

Ask us about plates, cutlery and serving staff and we will set out what we can do in your quote.

Planners, venues and businesses

Hosting a party at home? Send us a photo of the space and tell us about the drive and gates, and we will tell you honestly whether a truck or trailer will fit.

If you are booking for a business, tell us what your finance team needs, and we’ll explain how it works. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

Oakfield: venues, access and local tips

Oakfield is about 6 miles south-west of Southsea, in the Isle of Wight. Tell us where your event in Oakfield will be, and we’ll plan the journey and set-up. We serve in 125 places in the Isle of Wight, from the larger towns to small villages. You can also see our page for Southampton, about 17 miles away.

Historic houses near Oakfield include Nunwell House (2.6 miles south) and Morton Manor (3.2 miles south). Venues like these often limit where vehicles can go, so ask about access before booking one. Guests arriving by train will find that Oakfield has its own station, Ryde St Johns Road station. With the sea within about a mile, a beach-side event might appeal. Promenades and beaches typically need permission, and the truck or trailer has to park on firm ground, not sand.

We serve at events all over the PO33 postcode area and the streets around it. That could mean an event at a home with a drive on Park Road, Rink Road and Hope Road. You’ll find Oakfield on the A3055, so it is easy for us to reach with the truck or trailer. If your venue is just outside Oakfield, we also cover Elmfield (1 mile east), Ryde (1 mile north-west), Appley (1 mile north-east), Westridge (1 mile south-east) and Haylands (1 mile west). Within a short drive, we also cover Newport (6 miles west), Cowes (7 miles west), Sandown (5 miles south), Shanklin (6 miles south), Ventnor (9 miles south) and East Cowes (6 miles west). As one of the bigger places in the Isle of Wight, Oakfield has plenty of venues and spaces for events, though town-centre access for a truck or trailer needs planning. If your event is somewhere remote, tell us early so we can plan the journey, access and power.

Other landmarks nearby include Gosport War Memorial Hospital (5 miles north) and The Donald Mcgill Museum (0.8 miles north). The countryside around Oakfield includes Alan Hersey Nature Reserve and Brading Down.

  • Schools near Oakfield include Ryde School with Upper Chine (0.7 miles north-west) and Ryde Academy (0.9 miles west)
  • Local pubs include The Railway pub (less than half a mile north)

Tacos

Tacos are the classic street food of Mexico. We serve them with salsas and toppings, and corn tortillas suit gluten-free guests.

Build-your-own taco bar

A serving table of fillings, salsas and toppings, with tortillas kept warm. Everyone builds their own.

How it compares

For food that feels relaxed but generous, a taco bar or a menu of tacos, burritos and nachos is hard to beat. Access, parking and the distance to your venue can affect the price, so it helps to tell us about your venue. The full price is confirmed in your quote.

Perfect for your event in Oakfield

Mixed diets are easy to plan for, since everyone picks their own fillings and toppings. Vegans and vegetarians eat as well as anyone else.

Whatever the occasion, our truck or trailer can be the centre of it. We’re happy to cater:

  • Summer garden parties

Questions to ask before booking

Should I do it myself?

Doing it yourself? Start with the quantities: our guide to how many tacos per person helps. Keep tortillas warm in a covered basket, and label dishes for guests with allergies.

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party serving. With a caterer, you get the food and drinks without the work.

How the day works

When we arrive, we position the truck or trailer and get the serving area ready. Service starts at the time we’ve agreed, so everything runs to your schedule. In Oakfield, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting around the truck and the queue.

  1. First, send us your date, venue, numbers and any diets we should know about.
  2. You get a suggested menu, with fillings agreed with you, and a quote.
  3. We check access, power and water with you or the venue.
  4. On the day we arrive, set up and serve hot food from our truck or trailer.
  5. Once everyone has eaten, we tidy our serving area and head off.

Getting ready for the day

  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to park
  • Plan a covered area for guests if rain is likely
  • Confirm the venue allows outside caterers

Before you choose a spot

Every venue is different, so we’ll ask about yours when you get in touch. In general, we need:

  • The venue’s or landowner’s permission for a catering vehicle
  • A clear area in front of the hatch for a queue
  • A route in that’s wide and tall enough, with soft ground checked in advance

For somewhere as remote as Oakfield, early notice helps us plan the trip, the route in and power.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we’ll advise.
