Drinks planning tips

Some planning tips for the drinks:

  • Plan alcohol-free drinks for drivers
  • Tell us how many guests are under 18
  • Plan water alongside the bar
  • Check allergies with guests, including for drinks

Responsible serving comes first: under-18s aren’t served alcohol, and nor is anyone who has had too much.

A Mexican drinks bar in Old Town: local tips

Old Town is about 1 mile south-west of Eastbourne, in East Sussex. Tell us where your event in Old Town will be, and we will plan the journey and set-up before the day. We cater in 289 places in East Sussex, wherever the truck or trailer can get in. You can also see our page for Brighton, about 18 miles away.

If you’re looking at a historic venue around Old Town, check its rules on outside bars and vehicles early. Couples leaving a church such as Church of St Mary could be greeted with margaritas and aguas frescas at the reception. With the South Downs National Park within about 6 miles, a countryside drinks reception is an option. Check how the venue handles outside bars and vehicles. With the sea within about 2 miles, a seaside drinks reception is an option. Seafront spots generally need permission, especially for alcohol, and the truck or trailer needs firm ground.

For Mexican bar hire in BN21, BN20 and BN22, we plan around your venue and the route in and your guests. Local streets include Love Lane, Mill Road and Greys Road; for an event at home on any of them, tell us where the truck or trailer can park. We also serve at events in Upperton (1 mile east), Meads (1 mile south), Eastbourne (1 mile north-east), Holywell (1 mile south) and Ratton Village (1 mile north). Within a short drive, we also cover Hastings (15 miles north-east), Bexhill-on-Sea (10 miles north-east), Seaford (7 miles west), Lewes (13 miles north-west), Hailsham (6 miles north) and St Leonards (14 miles north-east).

Nearby you’ll also find Eastbourne District General Hospital (1 mile north) and Pevensey Castle (4.4 miles north-east). The countryside around Old Town includes Combe Hill.

  • Schools near Old Town include WMG Academy for Young Engineers (less than half a mile south) and Motcombe Infants' School (within half a mile north-west)
  • Nearby, you will find The Lamb Inn (less than half a mile east)

Prices and what affects them

The same guest numbers can mean different prices, because of:

  • The menu you choose
  • How many staff you need
  • The length of service
  • Distance and access to the venue

Access, parking and the distance to your venue can affect the price, so it helps to tell us about your venue. Your quote confirms the full price.

What we need to know

Good planning starts with a few facts. Try to include:

  • Diets and allergies you know about
  • Whether you’d like food, drinks or both
  • The date and time of the event
  • Roughly how many adults and children

It is easy to get a price: tell us the date, place, numbers and any dietary needs. We’ll come back with a clear quote and a suggested menu.

Before you choose a spot

No two venues are the same, so we ask about the space before we confirm. In general, we need:

  • Power and water arrangements, confirmed with each booking
  • A flat, firm spot for the bar
  • Room for a queue

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Menu ideas

  • Agua de jamaica (hibiscus)
  • Margaritas
  • Mexican beer
  • Soft drinks
  • Fruit aguas frescas
  • Horchata

For event organisers in Old Town

If your event is in a public space, such as a park, check what permission you need first. We will provide the information the landowner or council asks for from us.

Throwing a party at home? Send a picture of the space and tell us about access, and we will let you know if it is a good fit.

The process

From set-up to service, we look after everything you’ve booked from us, so you can enjoy your event. At midsummer, it is light in Old Town until about 9:15pm, so evening drinks can be served in daylight. By late September, sunset is about 7:00pm, and in December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so plan lighting around the bar.

  1. First, we check your date.
  2. We suggest margaritas, beer, aguas frescas and alcohol-free choices.
  3. We agree where the bar goes.
  4. We set up and serve on cue.
  5. When the bar shuts, we clear away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Give us a contact for the day
  • Send us final numbers and dietary needs in good time
  • Have a marquee or gazebo ready in case of rain

Old Town: your questions answered

Do you come to events in the South Downs National Park?

We do, where the venue allows a catering vehicle. Lanes can be narrow and ground soft, so tell us how we’d get in.

Could you serve our guests after a service at Church of St Mary?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall with access for the truck or trailer. Service would be at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

Do you follow the rules on serving alcohol?

Always. Under-18s aren’t served alcohol, and anyone who has had too much won’t be served more.

Do you need power and water?

Let us know what’s available on site, such as a supply from the venue near where we’ll park, and we’ll confirm the arrangements with your quote.

What if the weather’s bad?

Rain does not typically stop service from the truck or trailer. It is worth planning a covered area for guests, and tell us if heavy rain could make the ground soft.

Do you have options for kids?

Of course. We can keep dishes mild, and simple options such as quesadillas or nachos can be part of the menu. Tell us how many children are coming.

Do you have dairy-free options?

Yes. Dairy-free options are part of our menus, and we will tell you which dishes contain milk.

Can we book the bar without food?

Yes. Book the bar on its own, or with our Mexican catering.

  • Served from our truck or trailer at your venue, garden or event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, with allergen information
  • Tacos and taco bars, burritos, bowls, nachos and quesadillas
  • Mexican drinks bar: margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas
