Before you choose a spot

  • Access to unload close to the bar spot

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we will advise before booking.

Can I do a taco night myself?

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up in the kitchen. Booking a caterer means you can relax with everyone else.

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, with allergen information for every dish.

West Reading: venues, access and licensing

West Reading is about 1 mile north-west of Reading, in Reading. Tell us where your event in West Reading will be, and we will plan the journey and set-up. We serve in 34 places in Reading.

Couples leaving a church such as Church of St Mark could be greeted with margaritas and aguas frescas at the reception. Close to West Reading are historic houses such as Mapledurham House (2.8 miles north-west). Grand houses and estates tend to have firm rules on alcohol and outside bars, so raise the drinks bar with them early.

For Mexican bar hire in RG30, RG1 and RG31, we plan around your venue and the route in and your guests. That could mean an event at a home with a drive on Lundy Lane, Wilson Road and Wilton Road or the roads around them. You will find West Reading on the A4, so it’s easy for us to reach with the truck or trailer. Neighbouring places where we cater events include Coley Park (1 mile south-east), Reading (1 mile south-east), Caversham Heights (2 miles north), Lower Caversham (2 miles north-east) and Green Park (2 miles south). Further out, we also cater in Shinfield (4 miles south-east), Arborfield Garrison (6 miles south-east), Whitley Wood (3 miles south-east), Sonning Common (4 miles north), Caversham Park Village (3 miles north-east) and Sonning (4 miles east). Nearby you’ll also find Battle Hospital (less than half a mile north) and Broad Street Mall (0.8 miles east). Open spaces near West Reading include Fobney Island Wetland Reserve and Sonning Hill.

FAQs for West Reading

Can you cater a reception after a service at Church of St Mark?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall with access for the truck or trailer. We’d serve at the reception venue rather than at the church itself. Send us the reception address.

What’s the nearest station to West Reading for guests?

Reading West station, in West Reading itself.

Do you give allergen information?

We plan allergen-aware menus, including for nut allergies, with allergen information for every dish. We plan carefully and keep options separate, though we can’t promise a dish is allergen-free. Guests with severe allergies should talk to us before the event.

Can you do gluten-free food?

We can, using corn tortillas. Corn is naturally gluten-free, though some sauces and toppings can contain gluten, so we plan gluten-free dishes carefully and give allergen information.

Can you come to a private house?

It depends on access. A drive or a spot nearby may work, with permission, if the garden itself is out of reach. Tell us about the space and we’ll advise.

Can you serve in the rain?

Rain does not generally stop service from the truck or trailer. It is worth planning a covered area for guests, and tell us if heavy rain could make the ground soft.

Do you need power and water?

Let us know what’s available on site, for example a supply from the venue, and we’ll confirm the arrangements with your quote.

Is the food very hot?

That is your choice: we can keep the main dishes mild, with hotter salsas served separately. Read more about how spicy Mexican food is.

The process

Serving is quick: we serve from the hatch or a serving station, so a crowd is looked after quickly. When service ends, we pack down. In December, the light goes in West Reading at about 3:55pm, so an outdoor bar needs lighting from the start. Midsummer is the opposite, with daylight until about 9:25pm.

  1. You tell us the date, venue, guest numbers and the drinks you have in mind.
  2. Together we check how alcohol will be licensed at your event.
  3. We suggest a drinks list and send a quote.
  4. On the day we set up the bar and our bar staff serve your guests.
  5. When the bar closes, we pack down and clear our area.

Getting ready for the day

  • Tell us what power and water the site has
  • Share the running order, including any speeches
  • Measure any gates or arches on the way in

Getting a price
