Mexican catering in RG1: what to expect

We plan each menu with the client, so fillings might include slow-cooked pork carnitas, chicken tinga or beef birria, alongside vegan choices such as black beans or spiced mushrooms. It works well for charity and school events and christenings and family parties, with burritos, fresh salsas and guacamole and burrito bowls.

Serving is quick: guests are served at the hatch or a serving station, so even a long queue moves. Afterwards we clear our area.

  1. Contact us with the basics: when, where and how many.
  2. We come back with menu ideas and a quote.
  3. Nearer the date, we go over the final plan.
  4. We serve hot food from our truck or trailer at the agreed time.
  5. We pack away when service is over.

Cost

Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the length of service, plus any add-ons and the location. We quote for each event individually.

Around Newtown

Your event could be close to University of Reading library, The Fisherman's Cottage pub and St John and St Stephen, among other places. Other local landmarks include Eldon Square (0.5 miles south-west), Maiden Erlegh School (0.6 miles south-east), New Town Primary School (less than half a mile north-west) and Bulmershe College (under half a mile west). The nearest railway station is Reading station, about 1.1 miles west. Other landmarks nearby include The Oracle (1.1 miles west) and Royal Berkshire Hospital (0.6 miles south-west). Green spaces nearby include Sonning Hill and Fobney Island Wetland Reserve.

Catering events across RG1

From Reading, Earley and West Reading to 0 villages and hamlets, events across RG1 range from town-centre venues to gardens and fields, and a truck or trailer suits most settings with access and level ground. In towns, plan parking and loading; in villages, tell us about lanes, gates and ground.

Newtown: If people are travelling in by rail, the nearest station is Reading station, about 1.1 miles west. Close to Newtown are historic houses such as Mapledurham House (4.3 miles north-west). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on outside caterers and vehicles early. In Newtown, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm, plan lighting where guests queue and eat.

Prices and what affects them

The same guest numbers can mean different prices, because of:

  • The length of service
  • Staff for serving and the bar
  • How many guests we’re serving
  • What’s on the menu

Access and travel can make a difference to the cost, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. The full price is confirmed in your quote.

What to tell us

When you get in touch, it helps to tell us:

  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • A photo of the space, if it is a garden or field
  • Where the event is
  • How we drive in and where we can park

Getting a quote is simple: share your date, venue, numbers and diets. We’ll come back with a clear quote and a suggested menu.

For event organisers in RG1

Hosting a party at home? Send a photo of the space and tell us about access, and we will tell you honestly whether a truck or trailer will fit.

If you run the same event each year, tell us your dates early, so we can plan ahead.

How it compares

Burgers and pizza are what guests often expect. Tacos, burritos and nachos feel a little different, yet it is still food most guests know and like.

What your quote should include

  • Whether travel is included
  • When final numbers are due
  • How bad weather is handled
  • Where to see their hygiene rating

Should I do it myself?

Plenty of people try a DIY taco night at home. Common snags are cold tortillas, uneven quantities and the host missing the party. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the serving.

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, with allergen information for every dish.

Why street food works

Food is cooked to order and served hot, rather than sitting out on a buffet table.

These are some of the occasions we serve:

  • Weddings and evening receptions
  • Company summer parties
  • Garden parties
  • Fairs and festivals

Your questions about Mexican catering in RG1

Can you cater for special diets?

Yes. We plan vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, with corn tortillas for gluten-free guests. We give allergen information for every dish.

How much does Mexican catering cost?

We quote for each event, based on guest numbers, the menu, the venue and timings. For a price, send a quick message through our quote form.

Can you plan for allergies?

Our menus are planned with allergies in mind, nut allergies included, with allergen information for every dish. We keep options separate, but we can’t promise anything is completely allergen-free. Guests with severe allergies should talk to us before the event.

Can you serve drinks as well?

We can. The drinks bar offers margaritas, Mexican beer, aguas frescas and alcohol-free drinks. We’ll check the licensing with you.

What can we choose from?

Tacos, build-your-own taco bars, burritos, burrito bowls, loaded nachos and quesadillas, with salsas, guacamole and toppings. See our sample menu.

How much space do you need?

A level, firm spot for the truck or trailer, with access wide and high enough to drive in, plus the venue’s permission. Power and water arrangements are confirmed with each booking.

Can you set up at our venue?

Send us details of the venue and the access, and we’ll confirm what we need. Space for a queue and, if you choose one, a taco-bar table helps too.
