Mexican catering across SO16: what to know

Across SO16, we cater in 3 towns and 5 villages and hamlets, so whether your event is in Shirley, Regents Park and Maybush or a quiet village, the approach is the same: a level, firm spot, a way in and agreed timings. Around 21 places in SO16 are close to the coast, so we often plan around the wind at coastal events, and seafront spots need permission and firm ground for the truck or trailer.

Maybush: Thinking of an event in St James' Park? Public parks generally need the landowner’s permission for a food truck, so check first. Guests arriving by train will find that the nearest station is Redbridge station, about 1.2 miles south-west. Winter evenings in Maybush close in by about 4:00pm, so a well-lit spot for the queue makes a big difference. At midsummer, the light holds until around 9:25pm.

Can I do a taco night myself?

Not sure whether to do it yourself or book a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up in the kitchen. With a caterer, you get the food and drinks without the work.

Dietary needs and planning tips

Every guest is catered for, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan included. To get it right:

  • Ask the venue whether food trucks are allowed
  • Put guests with severe allergies in touch with us early
  • Plan a vegan filling as well as a vegetarian one
  • Give us separate numbers for children

For a taco bar, we lay the fillings, salsas and toppings out on a table, and guests help themselves.

Extra salsas and toppings can widen the choice.

Popular choices

Build-your-own taco bar

A serving table of fillings, salsas and toppings, with tortillas kept warm. Everyone builds their own.

Quesadillas

The same guest numbers can mean different prices, depending on:

  • How many staff you need
  • Travel, parking and access
  • Whether you add a drinks bar or food
  • Timings and hours

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: service time, staff, plates and napkins, travel and VAT. Our quote sets out what’s included.

FAQs for SO16

Do you give allergen information?

Yes, and it helps to hear about allergies when you book. Under UK rules, caterers must give information on 14 allergens, and we do that for every dish (Food Standards Agency guidance). Anyone with a severe allergy should speak to us before the event.

Do you have vegan options?

Yes, they’re part of the planning from the start. Tell us your numbers when you ask for a quote, and we’ll keep their options separate.

How much space do you need?

A level, firm spot for the truck or trailer, with access wide and high enough to drive in, plus the venue’s permission. We confirm power and water with you for each booking.

What guest numbers do you cater for?

It depends on the event. Most bookings fall around 50 to 400 guests, but tell us your numbers and we will plan around them.

Do you provide drinks?

Yes, we do. Our drinks bar can be booked on its own or with food, with alcohol-free options such as aguas frescas. We will check the licensing for alcohol with you.

Do you serve in the rain?

We can still serve in the rain. Plan a marquee, gazebo or indoor space for guests to eat in.

Is the food very hot?

The food can be kept mild, and hotter salsas go on the side for guests who like heat.
