Mexican catering across SO45

Few things get guests chatting like a build-your-own taco bar. Guests fill their own tortillas from the fillings, salsas and toppings, so nobody ends up with something they don’t want. We serve burritos, fresh salsas and guacamole and quesadillas, which works well for engagement celebrations and staff parties and office lunches.

We get there well before you want to serve, then set up and prepare everything. Guests come up to order when service opens.

  1. Contact us with the basics: when, where and how many.
  2. We come back with menu ideas and a quote.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm timings and arrangements.
  4. At the agreed time, service starts from the truck or trailer.
  5. We pack away when service is over.

Nearby too are Testwood School (1.3 miles west) and No.5 (The Lord Nelson Public House) (0.6 miles north). For guests coming by rail, the closest station is Southampton Town Quay station, roughly 2.3 miles north. Nearby you’ll also find Netley Castle (2.1 miles north-east) and Westquay (2.9 miles north). Green spaces nearby include Mercury Marshes.

Planning a food truck in SO45

From Hythe, Dibden Purlieu and Blackfield to 13 villages and hamlets, events across SO45 range from town-centre venues to gardens and fields, and a truck or trailer suits most settings with access and level ground. Town events mean planning parking; village events mean planning access and ground. The New Forest National Park is within easy reach of places across SO45, where some venues have extra rules about vehicles and catering. Around 18 places in SO45 are close to the coast, so we often plan around the wind at coastal events.

Hythe: Historic houses near Hythe include Medieval Merchant's House (2.6 miles north) and Southampton Tudor House and Garden (2.6 miles north). Venues like these often limit where vehicles can go, so ask about access before booking one. For a christening or wedding at a church such as Church of St John, a food truck at a garden or venue nearby is an easy way to feed everyone. Around midsummer it stays light in Hythe until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening events are typically served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting around the truck and the queue.

Space, access and the venue

No two venues are the same, so we’ll ask about yours before we confirm. In general, we need:

  • Agreement from the venue to bring a food truck or trailer on site
  • Details of power and water on site, agreed when you book
  • Space for guests to queue

Planning for every diet

We take diets and allergies seriously. Here’s how you can help:

  • Give us separate numbers for children
  • Let us know if a guest is coeliac
  • Tell us what other food is being served
  • Have a covered area ready in case of rain

Allergen information is on hand for every dish.

Quesadillas are a good choice for children and cautious eaters, because they’re simple.

DIY taco night or a caterer?

If you do it yourself, work out quantities first: our guide to how many tacos per person helps. Keep warmed tortillas covered, and label dishes for guests with allergies.

Some hosts like to do it themselves. Common snags are cold tortillas, uneven quantities and the host missing the party. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the serving.

Prices and what affects them

These are the factors that matter most:

  • Parking and the route in
  • How many staff you need
  • Timings and hours
  • How many guests we are serving

Your choice of food and drinks affects the price, so tell us what you have in mind. Tell us your budget and we will suggest a menu.

Getting an accurate quote

Questions from SO45

Is the food made fresh?

Fillings are slow-cooked in advance, then finished and kept hot on site. Tortillas are warmed on site, and salsas and guacamole are made fresh.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

Yes, we offer gluten-free options, made with corn tortillas. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we can talk through how their food is prepared. See are corn tortillas gluten-free?

Do you bring plates and cutlery?

That is confirmed with each quote. Let us know what the venue supplies and we’ll talk it through.

Do you do a taco bar?

Yes. A build-your-own taco bar can be served from the truck or a serving station, with fillings, salsas and toppings to choose from. Read our taco bar guide.

Do you give allergen information?

Our menus are planned with allergies in mind, nut allergies included, and give allergen information for every dish. We keep options separate, but we cannot promise anything is completely allergen-free. Guests with severe allergies should talk to us before the event.

Do you have options for kids?

Yes. We can keep dishes mild, and simple options such as quesadillas or nachos can be part of the menu. Include children in your numbers.

Can you serve in the rain?

We can keep serving from the truck or trailer in the rain, but guests need somewhere covered to eat and drink, such as a marquee, gazebo or nearby building.

  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, with allergen information
