How Mexican catering works in W1D

Few things get guests chatting like a build-your-own taco bar. Everyone builds their own tacos from what’s laid out, so each plate is exactly how they like it. It suits office lunches and team days and wedding breakfasts and evening food, with a build-your-own taco bar, burrito bowls and quesadillas.

When service finishes, we pack up and leave our area tidy. We agree set-up and pack-down times with you and your venue.

  1. Start by telling us about your event.
  2. You get a sample menu and a quote.
  3. Access, the serving spot, power and water are agreed in advance.
  4. We arrive, set up and serve from the hatch.
  5. We pack down after service and leave the area tidy.

Catering events across W1D

From Soho, Chinatown and West End to 0 villages and hamlets, events across W1D range from town-centre venues to gardens and fields, and a food truck or trailer can work in all of them, given access. Town events mean planning parking; village events mean planning access and ground.

Aldwych: Guests leaving a church like St Mary le Strand after a christening could walk over to a nearby garden where the tacos are ready. A gathering in Lincoln's Inn Fields would need the park owner’s say-so for any catering vehicle, and that is worth sorting out early. Evenings in Aldwych stay light until about 9:20pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:05pm. Festoon lights or floodlights help once it gets dark.

What affects the price in W1D

We’ll give you a clear quote. What affects it most:

  • Parking and the route in
  • Whether you add a drinks bar or food
  • What’s on the menu
  • Plates, napkins and cutlery

Access and travel can make a difference to the cost, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. The full price is confirmed in your quote.

Getting an accurate quote

You don’t need every detail fixed to get a quote, but it helps to know:

  • The address or venue name
  • Your menu ideas
  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • The date and rough timings

Every quote is put together for your event. Tell us your date and guest numbers, and we’ll check availability at the same time.

Dietary needs and planning tips

Mixed diets are straightforward to plan for, because guests can choose what suits them. A few tips:

  • Flag anyone with coeliac disease
  • Include at least one vegan filling
  • Add a dietary question to your RSVP
  • Put any allergies in writing for us

Rain doesn’t stop us serving from the truck or trailer, but guests will need somewhere covered to eat.

Quesadillas go down well with children, because they’re simple.

Planning the serving area

Everything is served from our food truck or trailer, so where we park matters. These are the things we check:

  • A flat, firm spot where the truck or trailer can stand
  • Some distance from houses and neighbours
  • Space for guests to queue

DIY taco night versus a caterer

Doing it yourself? Start with the quantities: see how many tacos per person. Keep warmed tortillas covered, and label anything containing allergens.

Some hosts like to do it themselves. The usual problems are cold tortillas, running out of a popular filling and a host stuck at the stove. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us serve.

For planners, venues and organisers

If your event is in a public space, such as a park, check what permission you need first. We’ll provide the information the landowner or council asks for from us.

For larger events, we plan serving points around your timings, so guests are looked after quickly. Let us know how long the break is.

FAQs for W1D

Can you cater for children?

Yes, children are easy to plan for. Let us know numbers and ages, and we’ll plan the menu with them in mind.

How much space do you need?

Access and level ground matter most: a level spot to park, space for guests to queue and a little room for a serving table. Send us a picture and tell us about gates, slopes and soft ground.

Do you do a drinks bar?

Yes. Our Mexican drinks bar serves margaritas, Mexican beer, aguas frescas and soft drinks. We will go through the licensing with you.

What if it rains?

Rain doesn’t stop service from the hatch. Plan a marquee, gazebo or indoor space for guests to eat in.

Do you give allergen information?

Our menus are planned with allergies in mind, nut allergies included, and give allergen information for every dish. We keep options separate, but we can’t promise anything is completely allergen-free. If a guest has a severe allergy, please talk to us before the event.

How is the food prepared?

Food is cooked to order in our truck or trailer, or served from a build-your-own taco bar. Fillings are slow-cooked beforehand and finished on site.

What about power on site?

It depends on the event and the set-up, and we agree power and water with you before the day. Let us know whether there’s a supply near where we’ll park.
