Choosing a Mexican caterer

Mexican catering in Sandford, served fresh

Fillings are slow-cooked in advance and kept hot on site, and the salsas and guacamole are freshly made. We warm the tortillas as each order goes out. For weddings, day or evening and markets and community events, we will put together a menu of burrito bowls, burritos and fresh salsas and guacamole.

Somewhere like Sandford, a field or garden is often the setting. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. We serve from the hatch of our food truck or trailer, or from a serving station, and we plan service so the queue keeps moving.

What we need at the venue

Every venue is different, so we ask about the space before we confirm. Generally, we look for:

  • The venue’s or landowner’s permission for a catering vehicle
  • A spot away from buildings, windows and neighbours
  • Space for guests to queue

Sandford is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we’ll plan the journey and access for the truck or trailer.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we’ll advise.

Sandford: your questions answered

Could you come to a seaside event near Sandford?

Yes, with permission for the spot and firm ground for the truck or trailer. Wind, sand and seafront permissions are the main things to plan on the coast.

Which station is closest to Sandford?

Shanklin station, about 2.5 miles east of the centre.

Do you have dairy-free options?

Yes. We offer dairy-free options, and we’ll tell you which dishes contain milk.

How soon do we need to book?

Early, particularly for summer Saturdays. Even if it is short notice, it’s worth asking.

Can you cater in a back garden?

Yes, if the truck or trailer can get in and park on level, firm ground. Send us a photo of the access and the space.

How much does Mexican catering cost in Sandford?

It depends on guest numbers, the menu, the length of service and the location. Send us the details for a quote.

Can you cater for special diets?

Yes. There are vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free options, and corn tortillas suit gluten-free guests. Allergen information is available for every dish.

Can you set up at our venue?

Tell us about the venue and the way in, and we’ll check it works. Space for a queue and, if you choose one, a taco-bar table helps too.

Organising for someone else?

Events in public spaces, like parks, usually need permission. We’ll provide the information the landowner or council asks for from us.

For larger events, we plan serving points around your timings, so guests are looked after quickly. Tell us how long you have for food and drinks.

Planning for every diet

We take diets and allergies seriously. Help us by following these steps:

  • Tell us about coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences
  • Ask the venue whether food trucks are allowed
  • Plan somewhere covered for guests to eat if it rains
  • Ask guests with severe allergies to talk to us before the event

Rain does not stop us serving from the truck or trailer, though guests need somewhere under cover to eat.

Add our Mexican drinks bar, with margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas.

How it works

Service is quick and friendly: we serve from the hatch or a serving station, so even a long queue moves. When service ends, we pack down. Around midsummer it stays light in Sandford until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening events are typically served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 4:00pm, plan lighting where guests queue and eat.

  1. First, send us your date, venue, numbers and any diets we should know about.
  2. You get a suggested menu, with fillings agreed with you, and a quote.
  3. We check access, power and water with you or the venue.
  4. We arrive, set up and cook to order, with salsas and guacamole made fresh.
  5. When service ends, we pack down and clear our area.

Getting ready for the day

  • Have level hardstanding or firm ground ready
  • Check the venue is happy to have a truck or trailer on site
  • Measure any gates or arches on the way in

Sandford: venues, access and local tips

Sandford is about 5 miles south-east of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. Across the PO38 area, we can bring the truck or trailer to you, as long as there’s access. Sandford is one of 125 towns and villages in the Isle of Wight where we can bring Mexican catering. You can also see our page for Southampton, about 21 miles away.

Close to Sandford are historic houses such as Haseley Manor (2.3 miles north) and Rylstone Manor (2.8 miles east). Estates and historic houses tend to set their own rules for caterers, so find out what yours allows first. For a christening or wedding at a church such as All Saints' Church, a food truck at a garden or venue nearby is an easy way to feed everyone. With the sea within about 3 miles, a beach-side event might appeal. Promenades and beaches normally need permission, and the truck or trailer has to park on firm ground, not sand.

This part of the Isle of Wight takes in PO38. Your event could be at a home on Shanklin Road and Redhill Lane or the roads around them. We also serve at events in Whiteley Bank (1 mile east), Godshill (1 mile west), Princelett (1 mile north-east), Wroxall (1 mile south-east) and Hale Common (1 mile north). We also cater in nearby towns such as Newport (5 miles north-west), Ryde (7 miles north-east), Cowes (9 miles north), Sandown (4 miles north-east), Shanklin (3 miles east) and Ventnor (3 miles south-east). Remote venues take a little more planning, so contact us in good time about access, ground and power.

Other landmarks nearby include Museum of Country And Agriculture (2.4 miles north) and Arthur Webster Memorial Hospital for Children (2.5 miles east). Green spaces nearby include Stenbury Down and Alverstone Mead.

  • Nearby schools include The Island Free School (2.5 miles south)
  • Pubs nearby include The Griffin Public House (0.6 miles west)
  • Local facilities include South Wight (2.9 miles south-east)

Prices and what affects them

Your quote will be clear. The main things that affect it are:

  • Parking and the route in
  • Plates, napkins and cutlery
  • Whether you add a drinks bar or food
  • How long we are needed on site

The cost per head can fall as numbers rise, since the set-up is much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

What we need to know

Here’s what makes a quick, accurate quote possible:

  • Where the event is
  • What you’d like on the menu
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • What power and water the site has

We need only a few details to quote: date, location, guest numbers and diets. Contact us for a quote: just tell us about it on our contact page.
