How our Mexican catering works in Tilford Reeds

Serving from a truck or trailer keeps the mood easy-going. People wander up, order at the hatch and head off with hot food. At garden get-togethers and fundraisers and school events, we can serve quesadillas, burrito bowls and loaded nachos.

Somewhere as small as Tilford Reeds, a garden or field is often the venue. Tell us about narrow lanes, gates and long drives and we’ll plan for them, and soft ground after rain is worth mentioning. We arrive ready to serve, and clear our own area when service is finished.

Comparing your options

Compared with a hog roast or barbecue, Mexican street food is easier for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free guests, thanks to separate fillings and toppings. A food truck can be a practical alternative to plated catering, because it needs no venue kitchen. Contact us for a quote to compare.

What Mexican catering costs

Each event is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • Timings and hours
  • Whether you need disposables
  • Serving staff
  • Distance and access to the venue

There’s no one-size-fits-all price for Mexican catering. A simple party menu and a full wedding day are very different jobs. Your quote sets it all out.

What to tell us

These details help us quote quickly:

  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and allergy numbers
  • Gate widths, slopes and the ground
  • What you’d like on the menu
  • The date and time of the event

Every quote is put together for your event. Give us your date and numbers, and we’ll confirm whether we’re available that day.

The process

We work to your timings. If speeches run late or the photos take longer, let us know and we will adjust where we can. In Tilford Reeds, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening events are generally served in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting around the truck and the queue.

  1. Start by telling us about your event.
  2. You get a sample menu and a quote.
  3. Access, the serving spot, power and water are agreed in advance.
  4. We arrive, set up and serve from the hatch.
  5. We pack down after service and leave the area tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Tell us about narrow gates or low branches
  • Share the running order, including any speeches
  • Ask the venue about power and water

Planning help

Tilford Reeds questions

We’re having a ceremony at Church of All Saints: can you cater afterwards?

Yes. The church itself isn’t where we’d set up, but a hall, field or garden close by with room for the truck or trailer can work well. Let us know the reception address and we’ll check the access.

Do you cater in the Surrey Hills National Landscape?

We do, where the venue allows a catering vehicle. Lanes can be narrow and ground soft, so tell us how we’d get in.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We pack down and tidy our own area after service. Ask us if you’d like help with anything else.

How far ahead should we book?

The sooner the better. Popular dates go first, so contact us early.

What food and drinks do you offer?

Mexican street food: tacos and build-your-own taco bars, burritos, burrito bowls, nachos and quesadillas, plus salsas, guacamole and toppings. A drinks bar is available too.

Do you have vegan options?

Yes, and we plan them in from the start. Let us know how many vegetarian and vegan guests to expect, and we’ll keep their options separate.

Can you serve in bad weather?

We serve from the truck or trailer whatever the weather, though guests need a covered place to eat.

Do you cover Tilford Reeds?

We do. Tilford Reeds is one of the places we cover. Send us your date to check availability.

Planning for every diet

A Mexican menu is easy to plan for mixed diets, because options can be kept separate. A few tips:

  • Put guests with severe allergies in touch with us early
  • Ask guests about diets and allergies with your invitations
  • Think about cover for guests in wet weather
  • Put any allergies in writing for us

We work around your timings, and adapt if they move.

Tell us if you need plates, cutlery or serving staff and we’ll set out what we can do in your quote.

Can I do a taco night myself?

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and handles allergen information for you.

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party serving. Booking a caterer means you can relax with everyone else.

  • Served from our truck or trailer at your venue, garden or event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, with allergen information
  • Tacos and taco bars, burritos, bowls, nachos and quesadillas
  • Mexican drinks bar: margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas
