Questions from Alfriston

Will you travel to a small place like Alfriston?

Yes. Villages and hamlets are part of our area, and the main thing is access: tell us about the lane, the gate and the ground.

We are having a ceremony at Church of St. Andrew: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall with access for the truck or trailer. We’d serve at the reception venue rather than at the church itself. Send us the reception address.

Can you keep it mild?

That’s your choice: we can keep the main dishes mild, with hotter salsas served separately. Read more about how spicy Mexican food is.

How far ahead should we book?

As soon as you have a date. Peak dates go quickly, so get in touch early.

Can guests build their own tacos?

We can. A build-your-own taco bar can be served from the truck or a serving station, with fillings, salsas and toppings to choose from. Read our taco bar guide.

What’s on the menu?

Mexican street food and drinks: tacos, taco bars, burritos, bowls, nachos and quesadillas, plus salsas, guacamole and toppings. We also run a Mexican drinks bar, with margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas.

How long do you serve for?

That depends on your event and menu. Timings are agreed in advance so everything fits your schedule.

Do you provide plates and napkins?

Please ask us. Tell us what your venue provides, and we’ll confirm what’s included with your quote.

Planning the bar

Some planning tips for the drinks:

  • Add food if the bar runs for a while
  • Check how alcohol will be licensed at your venue
  • Allow time for a Temporary Event Notice if one is needed
  • Check allergies with guests, including for drinks

We can give allergen information for every drink, so guests can check before ordering.

Pair the bar with tacos, burritos and nachos.

What we need at the venue

We will be honest if a space won’t work. The main points are:

  • A spot away from neighbours’ windows if the bar runs late
  • Vehicle access near the bar
  • The right licence for alcohol: the venue’s licence or a Temporary Event Notice

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Leaving guests to bring their own is easy but unpredictable. A staffed bar means everyone is served, including non-drinkers. Comparing caterers? Look at what each quote includes: serving hours, staff, disposables, travel and VAT. Our quote sets out what’s included.

How the day works

We get there well before you want to serve, then set up and prepare everything. When service opens, guests come up to the hatch or serving table. At midsummer, it is light in Alfriston until about 9:15pm, so evening drinks can be served in daylight. By late September, sunset is about 7:05pm, and in December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so plan lighting around the bar.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and what you’d like to serve.
  2. Together we check how alcohol will be licensed at your event.
  3. You get a suggested drinks menu and a quote.
  4. On the day we set up the bar and our bar staff serve your guests.
  5. We pack away when the bar shuts and leave the area tidy.

Should I do it myself?

You can host your own taco night for a crowd, but it takes planning. Fillings need slow cooking, tortillas need warming as you go, and salsas need making. Our taco bar guide explains how.

Doing it yourself? Start with the quantities: see how many tacos per person. Keep warmed tortillas covered, and label dishes for guests with allergies.
