How it compares

Burger stalls are common. A Mexican trader adds variety to a food line-up. Larger events can cost less per head, since the set-up is much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Catering for every guest

Nearly every event has some special diets. To cater well for them:

  • Plan for vegan and gluten-free visitors
  • Check allergen information is on display
  • Put all trader information in one pack
  • Plan seating near the food area

We keep our pitch tidy and safe throughout the day.

Margaritas and Mexican beer, subject to the event’s licence.

The process

We need a level, firm spot we can drive the truck or trailer onto, and we agree power and water arrangements before the day. A picture of the space helps. By late September, it is dark in Lake at around 7:10pm, so an evening programme will run partly after dusk. Organisers should plan that into the site layout.

  1. Send the event name, expected visitors and pitch size.
  2. We reply with our stall menu and what we need on site.
  3. Power, water and access are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day, we’re ready before the busiest hours.
  5. When trading ends, the pitch is cleared and left clean.

Preparing for the day

  • Let us know who to talk to on the day
  • Have level hardstanding or firm ground ready
  • Check gates and access routes are wide and high enough

Lake events: pitches and permissions

Lake is about 1 mile south-west of Sandown, in the Isle of Wight. Tell us where your event in Lake will be, and we will plan access and set-up. Lake is one of 125 places in the Isle of Wight where we can bring Mexican street food. Our truck and trailer cover the area from Lake to Southampton (about 21 miles away).

For visitors coming by rail, Lake station is in Lake itself. A school such as Broadlea Primary School running a summer fair could book a taco truck. Within about 2 miles of the sea, coastal events bring wind and sand into the plan. A firm, sheltered pitch suits a truck or trailer best.

We serve at events all over PO36 and PO37. Local streets include Lea Road, New Road and Percy Road; for an event at home on any of them, tell us where the truck or trailer can park. You will find Lake on the A3055, so it’s easy for us to reach with the truck or trailer. Neighbouring places where we cater events include Sandown (1 mile north-east), Alverstone (1 mile north-west), Queen's Bower (1 mile north-west), Shanklin (1 mile south) and Alverstone Garden Village (1 mile north-west). Within a short drive, we also cover Newport (7 miles north-west), Ryde (5 miles north), Cowes (10 miles north-west), Ventnor (4 miles south-west), East Cowes (9 miles north-west) and Oakfield (5 miles north). Remote venues take a little more planning, so contact us in good time about access, ground and power.

Other landmarks nearby include National Poo Museum (less than half a mile east) and Arthur Webster Memorial Hospital for Children (1.2 miles south-west). Green spaces nearby include Brading Down and Alverstone Mead.

  • Local schools include Sandown Bay Academy (0.6 miles north) and The Bay Church of England School (0.7 miles north-east)
  • Nearby, you will find The Old Comical pub (0.6 miles north-east)

Planning the serving area

Every venue is different, so we’ll ask about yours when you contact us. Generally, we look for:

  • The event’s site rules and timings
  • A pitch big enough for the truck or trailer and a queue
  • Vehicle access before and after the event

Lake is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we’ll plan the journey and access for the truck or trailer.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we will advise.
