The Moor: your questions answered

Is The Moor close to London?

Roughly 41 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Do you come to events in the High Weald National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We’ll follow the site rules.

Do you have dairy-free options?

We can. We offer dairy-free options, and we will tell you which dishes contain milk.

How long are you on site?

We get there well before service to set up. The length of service is agreed when you book, along with pack-down.

Do you do margaritas?

Yes, we run a Mexican drinks bar, serving margaritas, Mexican beer, aguas frescas such as hibiscus and horchata, and soft drinks. Alcohol at an event may need a licence, such as a premises licence or a Temporary Event Notice, so we will check the licensing with you.

Is there a minimum number of guests?

It depends on the menu and how long service runs, but our truck and trailer service usually suits around 50 to 400 guests. Tell us your numbers and we’ll advise.

Can we book you as a trader?

Tell us about your event, and we’ll confirm availability and requirements.

Do you have options for kids?

Yes, children are easy to plan for. Let us know numbers and ages, and we’ll plan the menu with them in mind.

Events we cater in The Moor

One trader, several diets.

If you are planning any of these, we can help:

  • County and country shows
  • Festivals
  • School and charity events
  • Open-air performances

A market or festival in Collingwood Nature Reserve would be licensed by whoever manages the park, and we will provide our part of the paperwork.

What your quote should include

  • Staff numbers and hours
  • How dietary needs and allergies are handled
  • What the price includes, item by item
  • Whether plates, napkins and cutlery are included

Our caterer checklist

Planning for every diet

A little planning makes sure everyone can eat. Try these:

  • Make allergen information visible at every stall
  • Agree when vehicles can move on site
  • Confirm power and water with traders
  • Put picnic tables near the traders

We serve from the hatch throughout trading hours.

Burrito bowls for gluten-free visitors.

Mexican street food or something else?

One-dish stalls leave some visitors out. Tacos, burritos, bowls and nachos give choice. Pricing depends on the event. A short lunch service for a team is a different job from a full wedding day. Contact us for a quote.

Why book with us

  • Tacos, burritos and a drinks bar
  • A clear quote
  • Options for vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free guests
  • Service planned around your numbers

Prices and what affects them

These are the factors that matter most:

  • What the venue already provides
  • How long we are needed on site
  • Guest numbers
  • Distance and access to the venue

Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the length of service, along with extras and where your event is. We quote for each event individually.

What we need to know

You do not need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:

  • Expected numbers
  • What you’d like on the menu
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Gate widths, slopes and the ground

To get a price, just tell us about it on our contact page. Give us the details of your event, and we will put together a menu and price.

Planning the serving area

If a space is not suitable, we will tell you, and help find another spot. What matters most:

  • Spacing from tents and other structures
  • Pitch space for the vehicle and a queue
  • Your trader pack and site rules

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we’ll advise.

The process

From set-up to service, we look after everything you’ve booked from us, so you can spend time with your guests. At midsummer, events in The Moor stay light until about 9:15pm, which helps evening trading. For winter markets, dark by about 3:55pm, the pitch needs lighting.

  1. Tell us about the event, the crowd and the pitch.
  2. You get our menu and pitch requirements.
  3. We confirm power, water and access arrangements.
  4. We plan to be ready for the lunchtime rush.
  5. When trading ends, the pitch is cleared and left clean.

How to prepare

  • Plan a covered area for guests if rain is likely
  • Choose a level, firm spot for the truck or trailer
  • Check the venue is happy to have a truck or trailer on site

Planning help

Can I do a taco night myself?

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up in the kitchen. With a caterer, you get the food and drinks without the work.

You can host your own taco night for a crowd, but it takes planning. There are fillings to slow-cook, tortillas to keep warm and salsas to make. Our taco bar guide explains how.
