Taco bar hire for Selsted events

How our taco bar hire works in Selsted

You choose the fillings with us, perhaps carnitas, chicken tinga or birria, with a vegan filling like black bean and sweet potato or spiced mushroom. Popular choices include warm corn and flour tortillas, guacamole and a build-your-own taco bar, and it suits milestone birthdays and back-garden gatherings.

Near Selsted, a taco bar next to the truck in a field or garden works well. Tell us about gates, ground and the distance from the lane, and we’ll confirm power and water with you. Guests are served from our food truck or trailer, or from a serving table nearby, and we plan service so the queue keeps moving.

We take care of everything you’ve booked, from set-up to service, so you can spend time with your guests. Daylight in Selsted runs to about 8:45pm in late May and 7:00pm in late September. Let us know if an outdoor station will run after dark, and we’ll talk about lighting.

  1. Send us the date, venue and numbers.
  2. Together we choose what goes on the bar.
  3. The venue confirms where the bar goes and where we park.
  4. Our staff set out the bar and guests build their own tacos.

  • A parking or loading spot near the serving area

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Should I do it myself?

Running your own drinks table is one option, but someone still has to mix, pour and keep an eye on it all evening. See our margarita bar guide.

Some hosts like to do it themselves. The usual problems are cold tortillas, running out of a popular filling and a host stuck at the stove. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the serving.

FAQs for Selsted

Can you serve near the sea around Selsted?

Yes, with permission for the spot and firm ground for the truck or trailer. Seafront and beach spots typically need permission, and wind is the main thing to plan for.

Do you cater in villages like Selsted?

Yes. Villages and hamlets are part of our area, and the main thing is access: tell us about the lane, the gate and the ground.

How spicy is the food?

That’s your choice: we can keep it mild and put the hotter salsas on the side. Read more about how spicy Mexican food is.

Do you do margaritas?

Yes. Our drinks bar can be booked on its own or with food. We’ll check the licensing for alcohol with you.

How soon do we need to book?

As soon as you have a date. Peak dates go quickly, so it pays to ask early.

Do you cook on site?

We slow-cook fillings ahead, then finish them and keep them hot at your event. The tortillas are warmed on site, and the salsas and guacamole are made fresh.

Can you do gluten-free food?

Yes, gluten-free options are available, using corn tortillas. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we can explain how we prepare their food.

Do you give allergen information?

We plan allergen-aware menus, including for nut allergies, and give allergen information for every dish. We keep options separate, but we cannot promise anything is completely allergen-free. Guests with severe allergies should talk to us before the event.

For planners, venues and organisers

Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we’ll keep you updated on timings and set-up.

If you’re booking for a business, tell us what your finance team needs, and we’ll explain how it works. We are happy to liaise with facilities on access and timings.

Our caterer checklist

Selsted: venues, access and set-up

Selsted is about 5 miles north of Folkestone, in Kent. We cater events at gardens, halls and venues around Selsted and nearby villages. We cater in all 922 towns and villages across Kent, from the larger towns to small villages. Our truck and trailer cover the area from Selsted to Canterbury (9 miles away).

Nearby historic houses include Acrise Place (2.2 miles south-west). Historic venues often limit where vehicles can go, so ask whether a taco bar station could be set up inside while our food truck or trailer parks further off. With the Kent Downs National Landscape about 3 miles away at most, a countryside taco bar is an option from Selsted. Rural venues may limit vehicles, so ask where we can park and unload. With the sea within about 6 miles, a taco bar at a coastal venue is an option. Open toppings and a sea breeze do not mix, so a sheltered or indoor spot is best.

Planning for every diet

Mixed diets are straightforward to plan for, because options can be kept separate. A few tips:

  • Put guests with serious allergies in touch with us early
  • Include a vegan filling on the bar
  • Set out seating near the bar
  • Fit the bar into your running order

A covered spot keeps the bar and guests dry if it rains, so plan somewhere sheltered if you can.

Burrito bowls sit well on the bar for anyone avoiding tortillas.

  • Served from our truck or trailer at your venue, garden or event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, with allergen information
  • Tacos and taco bars, burritos, bowls, nachos and quesadillas
  • Mexican drinks bar: margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas
