What we need at the venue

The route in matters as much as the spot itself. We look for:

  • Room nearby to park and unload our vehicle
  • Space beside the truck or trailer if you are booking both
  • Space for a serving table on level ground

In Southend, as everywhere in Greater London, the ULEZ applies and kerb space is limited. Where will the truck or trailer stop? A drive, a courtyard or a suspended bay can all work.

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before booking.

On the menu in Southend

  • Pickled onions and toppings
  • Vegan fillings
  • Corn and flour tortillas
  • Tortilla chips
  • Two to four fillings
  • Salsas and guacamole

Taco bar hire for your event in Southend

You choose the fillings with us, perhaps carnitas, chicken tinga or birria, plus a vegan choice such as spiced mushroom or black bean and sweet potato. It works well for garden parties and office lunches, serving pickled onions and toppings, slow-cooked fillings kept hot and warm corn and flour tortillas.

From an office courtyard to a hired room, a taco bar in Southend needs space for a table and a queue. Tell us where we can stop to unload, and about stairs, lifts or narrow doors, as London parking takes planning. You can book food, drinks or both, so the food and drinks can come from one caterer.

Diets, allergies and planning

Every guest is catered for, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan included. To get it right:

  • Put allergies in writing for us
  • Ask guests about diets and allergies on the RSVP
  • Let us know about anyone who is coeliac
  • Tell us when guests should eat

Fillings are kept hot and tortillas warmed in batches.

Our drinks bar can sit alongside the taco bar with margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas, with licensing checked with you.

How it works

On the day, we position the truck or trailer and get the serving area ready. Service starts at the time we’ve agreed, planned around your event. Around midsummer it stays light in Southend until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so an outdoor taco bar in summer is normally served in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, plan good lighting over the station.

  1. Send us the date, venue and numbers.
  2. We plan the fillings, salsas and toppings with you.
  3. We confirm the table spot and where we will unload.
  4. On the day, guests help themselves while we keep the bar stocked.
  5. When everyone has eaten, we pack up.

For planners, venues and organisers

Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we’ll keep you updated on timings and set-up.

Events in public spaces, like parks, typically need permission. We can send what the landowner or council needs from us.

What taco bar hire costs

Contact us for a quote, which reflects:

  • The length of service
  • Plates, napkins and cutlery
  • Whether you add a drinks bar or food
  • What’s on the menu

The price depends on guest numbers, the menu and how long you’d like us to serve, plus any add-ons and the location. Every event gets its own quote.

Details that help

You do not need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:

  • Expected numbers
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • How we drive in and where we can park
  • The date and time of the event

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote: the venue, the timings, food or drinks or both, and the access. To send your details, send us your details through our quote form.

Choosing a Mexican caterer

Should I do it myself?

Doing it yourself? Start with the quantities: see how many tacos per person. Keep warmed tortillas covered, and label anything containing allergens.

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party serving. Booking a caterer means you can relax with everyone else.

Common questions in Southend

Could the taco bar go somewhere in Southend that the truck cannot reach?

Normally, if the venue agrees to a staffed station. We still need somewhere close by to unload, and in London that may mean a loading bay or a parking suspension.

We are having a ceremony at St Dunstan: can you cater afterwards?

Yes. The church itself is not where we’d set up, but a hall, field or garden close by with room for the truck or trailer can work well. Let us know the reception address and we will check the access.

How spicy is the food?

We can keep it mild, and hotter salsas go on the side for guests who like heat.

How long do you serve for?

We get there well before service to set up. The length of service is agreed when you book, along with pack-down.

Do you have gluten-free options?

We can, using corn tortillas. Corn tortillas are naturally gluten-free, but some fillings, sauces and toppings may not be, so we plan gluten-free dishes carefully and give allergen information.

Do you cater for vegetarian guests?

Yes, they’re part of the planning from the start. Tell us your numbers when you ask for a quote, and we’ll keep their options separate.

Is a taco bar suitable for a big group?

Truck and trailer service normally suits around 50 to 400 guests, and smaller parties are quoted case by case. Tell us your numbers and we will plan the bar around them.

Can we have a taco bar at our wedding?

A taco bar makes a relaxed, sociable wedding meal. Service is timed around speeches and photos. There is more in our taco bar guide.
