Can I do a taco night myself?

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and handles allergen information for you.

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up in the kitchen. With a caterer, you get the food and drinks without the work.

About our taco bar hire in Tidmarsh

The bar can stand beside our truck or trailer, or on its own. Where a vehicle cannot reach the serving spot, we unload nearby and set the table up there, with the venue’s agreement. On the menu are warm corn and flour tortillas, fresh salsas and pickled onions and toppings, and it’s a good fit for barn parties and garden parties.

Somewhere as small as Tidmarsh, a garden, barn or hall can host a taco bar. If lanes or soft ground stop the truck getting close, the station can be set up nearer your guests, as long as we can unload within a short walk. You’ll know what’s included before booking: the menu, the service time and any extras you choose.

Tidmarsh: your questions answered

Do you cater in villages like Tidmarsh?

Yes, we cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates, ground and parking.

Can you bring a truck or trailer to venues in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape?

We do, where the venue allows a catering vehicle. Lanes can be narrow and ground soft, so tell us how we’d get in.

Can you come to a private house?

Yes, if the truck or trailer can get in and park on level, firm ground. Tell us about the drive, gates and any slopes.

What’s on the menu?

Every menu is agreed with you. Fillings might include chicken tinga, pork carnitas, al pastor-style pork and vegan options like black beans. See our menu for ideas.

What space does a taco bar need?

Send us details of the venue and where you’d like the bar, and we will check it works. The venue’s agreement is needed too.

How spicy is the food?

That is your choice: we can keep the main dishes mild, with hotter salsas served separately.

Can guests build their own tacos?

Yes, a taco bar is one of the ways we serve. Let us know your numbers and space and we will recommend how to serve.

Do you cook on site?

We cook to order in our truck or trailer kitchen, or serve from a taco bar. Slow-cooked fillings are prepared in advance and kept hot on site.

Prices and what affects them

These are the factors that matter most:

  • Distance and access to the venue
  • The menu you choose
  • The number of people
  • Adding food to drinks, or drinks to food

There’s no one-size-fits-all price for taco bar hire. A short lunch service for a team is a different job from a full wedding day. Contact us for a quote.

What to tell us

Here’s what makes a quick, accurate quote possible:

  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • Your menu ideas
  • How we drive in and where we can park
  • The venue or postcode

Catering for every guest

A Mexican menu is easy to plan for mixed diets, because options can be kept separate. A few tips:

  • Agree the serving spot with your venue early
  • Tell us when guests should eat
  • Include a vegan filling on the bar
  • Confirm a loading spot close to the bar

Dishes are labelled, with allergen information available at the table.

Ask us whether a second station would help with big numbers.

The menu, item by item

Vegan fillings

A vegan filling sits on the bar with the rest, not an afterthought.

Toppings

Toppings let guests finish their tacos their way, and dairy-free choices are kept apart.

Space, access and the venue

We serve from a truck or trailer, so where we park matters. Here’s what we look for:

  • A flat spot for the taco-bar station
  • Space for a line of guests at the bar
  • Shelter from rain and sun for an outdoor bar

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we will advise before booking.

Menu ideas

  • Vegan fillings
  • Salsas and guacamole
  • Tortilla chips
  • Corn and flour tortillas
  • Two to four fillings
  • Pickled onions and toppings

Step by step

A typical event goes like this: we park up and get ready, we open the hatch when you are ready, and your guests are served fresh for the agreed time. Around midsummer it stays light in Tidmarsh until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so a summer taco bar outside normally runs in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so guests will need light to see the fillings and toppings.

  1. Send us the date, venue and numbers.
  2. Together we choose what goes on the bar.
  3. We confirm the table spot and where we’ll unload.
  4. Our staff set out the bar and guests build their own tacos.
  5. We clear the bar away after service.

Preparing for the day

  • Send us final numbers and dietary needs in good time
  • Let us know the timings for the day
  • Check the venue is happy to have a truck or trailer on site
