Food truck hire or something else?

Booking several street food trucks means juggling several suppliers. One Mexican truck with a varied menu keeps things simple. Extra dishes, drinks and longer service are priced on request, so you can choose what you need.

Fairlight: parking, access and venues

Fairlight is about 4 miles east of Hastings, in East Sussex. We serve at events in gardens, halls and venues around Fairlight and the surrounding area. Fairlight is one of 289 towns and villages in East Sussex where we can bring food truck hire. You can also see our page for Royal Tunbridge Wells, about 24 miles away.

Rail travellers will be glad to hear that the nearest station is Three Oaks station, about 2.2 miles north-west. When the service is at a church such as The Parish Church of St Andrew, the truck would serve at the reception venue rather than at the church. A private event by the sea is within reach, as Fairlight is within about 4 miles of the coast. Promenades and beaches typically need the council’s agreement for a catering vehicle.

This part of East Sussex takes in TN35, and we can cater your event anywhere in it with access for the truck or trailer. That could mean an event at a home with a drive on Hill Road, The Close and Lower Coastguard Lane. Nearby, we also cater events in Fairlight Cove (1 mile east), Friar's Hill (1 mile north), Guestling (1 mile north-west), Bachelor's Bump (1 mile west) and Guestling Green (1 mile north-west). Larger places within reach include Hastings (4 miles west), Bexhill-on-Sea (8 miles west), St Leonards (4 miles west), Hastings Old Town (3 miles south-west), Belmont (3 miles south-west) and Langney (15 miles west).

Other landmarks nearby include Hastings Old Town Hall Museum (2.7 miles south-west) and Conquest Hospital (3.4 miles west). Open spaces near Fairlight include Church Wood and Robsack Wood.

Organising for someone else?

For repeat events, such as annual staff parties or seasonal fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can check the date.

For big numbers, we plan service to keep queues short, so guests are looked after quickly. Let us know how long the break is.

What affects the price in Fairlight

Two events with the same number of guests can cost different amounts, depending on:

  • Food, drinks or both
  • Whether you need disposables
  • Distance and access to the venue
  • The menu you choose

Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the length of service, plus any add-ons and the location. We quote for each event individually.

Details that help

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what’s useful:

  • The date and time of the event
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Whether you’d like food, drinks or both
  • A picture of the space, if it is a garden or field

Every event is quoted individually, so the price fits what you actually want. To ask for one, tell us about it on our contact page.

Should I do it myself?

If you do it yourself, work out quantities first: our guide to how many tacos per person helps. Keep tortillas warm in a covered basket, and label dishes for guests with allergies.

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up in the kitchen. With a caterer, you get the food and drinks without the work.

Common questions in Fairlight

Do you cater at coastal events near Fairlight?

Yes, as long as the site allows it and the ground is firm. Wind, sand and seafront permissions are the main things to plan on the coast.

Do you come out to small places like Fairlight?

Yes, small places are no problem, given access. Let us know about access and parking for the truck or trailer.

Do you do a taco bar?

We can. We can set up a build-your-own taco bar, served from the truck or a serving table, with fillings, salsas, guacamole and toppings. Read our taco bar guide.

What’s on the menu?

Mexican street food and drinks: tacos and build-your-own taco bars, burritos, burrito bowls, nachos and quesadillas, plus salsas, guacamole and toppings. We also run a Mexican drinks bar.

Do you provide plates and napkins?

We confirm that with your quote. Tell us whether your venue has crockery or you’d prefer disposables and we will talk it through.

How much is food truck hire?

We don’t publish set prices, because each hire is different. Tell us your plans and we will quote for your event. Our food truck hire guide explains what affects the cost.

Do you sell to the public at private events?

When you hire us, the booking is yours, so we don’t serve passers-by. Organisers wanting us to trade at their event can see our festival page.

How does food truck hire work?

You book the truck or trailer for set hours at your event. We cook, serve and clear away.

Planning the serving area

No two venues are the same, so we ask about the space when you contact us. Generally, we look for:

  • A parking suspension, where a street spot is needed
  • Some space between the truck and nearby homes
  • A clear area for a queue at the hatch

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we will advise.

Step by step

We need a level, firm spot we can drive the truck or trailer onto, and we agree power and water arrangements before the day. A photo of the space helps. At midsummer, it stays light in Fairlight until about 9:15pm, while late September brings sunset forward to around 7:00pm. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so the queue by the hatch needs lighting.

  1. Check our availability for your date.
  2. You get a menu for the hatch and a quote.
  3. The spot and the way in are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day, guests order at the hatch and we cook to order.
  5. After service, we close up and leave the spot clear.

How to prepare

  • Check the venue is happy to have a truck or trailer on site
  • Find out what power and water are available
  • Have level hardstanding or firm ground ready
