Questions to ask before booking

Food truck hire in Wickstreet, served fresh

We cook inside our truck or trailer, so there’s no need for kitchen space at the venue. We need a level spot, safe access and the venue’s permission. We serve tacos from the hatch, fresh salsas and guacamole and burritos, and it suits company away days and engagement parties.

Somewhere as small as Wickstreet, food truck hire can mean a garden, a field or a barn. Lanes, gates and long drives are fine if we know about them. Soft ground after rain is worth mentioning too. You can book food, drinks or both, so the food and drinks can come from one caterer.

Prices and what affects them

Two events with the same number of guests can cost different amounts, because of:

  • Guest numbers
  • Food, drinks or both
  • Timings and hours
  • Serving staff

Extra dishes, drinks and longer service are priced on request, so you choose what goes in.

Details that help

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Gate widths, slopes and the ground
  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • Where the event is
  • What you’d like on the menu

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote: the venue, the timings, food or drinks or both, and the access. To send your details, tell us about it on our contact page.

Planning for every diet

We take diets and allergies seriously. Help us by following these steps:

  • Ask guests with severe allergies to speak to us beforehand
  • Measure gates and look for low branches on the way in
  • Ask the venue about catering vehicles before booking
  • Collect diets and allergies with your RSVPs

At the end of service, we close the hatch and pack down.

Add a build-your-own taco bar beside the truck for a wedding breakfast or lunch.

Space, access and the venue

Many gardens, fields and venues can take a truck or trailer, but a few things matter:

  • Somewhere for guests to sit or stand and eat
  • Any parking or loading permission needed for street locations
  • Room for guests to gather at the hatch

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly.

Is food truck hire right for your event?

A DIY barbecue keeps a host at the grill. With a hired truck, we do the cooking so you can join in. Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the length of service, along with extras and where your event is. We quote for each event individually.

What you get with us

  • Service planned around your numbers
  • A truck or trailer that comes to you
  • Tacos, burritos and a drinks bar
  • Access, space and power checked in advance

Wickstreet: your questions answered

Do you cater in the South Downs National Park?

We do, where the venue allows a catering vehicle. Lanes can be narrow and ground soft, so tell us how we’d get in.

Do you come out to small places like Wickstreet?

Yes. Villages and hamlets are part of our area, and the main thing is access: tell us about the lane, the gate and the ground.

How does private food truck hire work?

Our food truck or trailer comes to your venue and serves your guests from the hatch. Only your guests are served.

Can you run a bar?

Yes. Our drinks bar can be booked on its own or with food. We will check the licensing for alcohol with you.

Do you cater for dietary needs?

Diets are planned with you in advance, though we can’t guarantee there are no traces of any allergen. Anyone with a severe allergy should contact us before the event.

What happens if it rains?

The truck or trailer can serve in the rain, but your guests will want somewhere covered, like a marquee or gazebo.

What space does the truck need?

A firm, level spot, a way in that fits the vehicle, and the venue’s agreement. We confirm power and water when you book.

Do you sell to the public at private events?

A private hire is booked and quoted for you, and we do not sell to the public. Organisers wanting us to trade at their event can see our festival page.

How it works

Service is quick and friendly: we serve from the hatch or a serving station, so even a long queue moves. Afterwards we clear our area. Late-September events in Wickstreet see sunset at about 7:05pm, so evening service from the truck may run past dusk. A late-May event keeps its light until roughly 8:50pm.

  1. Check our availability for your date.
  2. You get a menu for the hatch and a quote.
  3. The spot and the way in are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day, guests order at the hatch and we cook to order.
  5. After service, we close up and leave the spot clear.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us what power and water the site has
  • Tell us about narrow gates or low branches
  • Share the running order, including any speeches

Planning help

DIY taco night or a caterer?

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, with allergen information for every dish.

Plenty of people try a DIY taco night at home. The usual problems are cold tortillas, running out of a popular filling and a host stuck at the stove. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us serve.
