St Helens: your questions answered

Do you cater at coastal events near St Helens?

We can, given firm ground and the landowner’s permission. Beaches and promenades typically need the council’s agreement, so check that first.

Which station should guests use for St Helens?

Guests can use Brading station, about 1.8 miles south-west of St Helens.

What drinks do you serve?

Margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas, plus soft drinks. We plan the list with you.

Do you do drinks only?

Yes, though it pairs well with tacos. Our Mexican catering can be added too.

How long do you serve for?

We arrive in good time to set up before service. The length of service is agreed when you book.

Who handles the licensing?

That depends on your venue. If the venue has no licence, a Temporary Event Notice may be needed. We talk it through with you.

Can guests build their own tacos?

Yes, a taco bar is one of our options. Tell us about your space and numbers and we’ll recommend how to serve.

Do you provide plates and napkins?

Ask us when you enquire. Tell us what your venue provides, and we’ll set out plates, napkins and cutlery in your quote.

Step by step

The truck or trailer tends to draw a crowd, so we plan a spot with space for people to queue. Rain does not normally stop us serving, though guests will want somewhere covered to stand or sit. In December, the light goes in St Helens at about 4:00pm, so an outdoor bar needs lighting from the start. Midsummer is the opposite, with daylight until about 9:20pm.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We talk through licensing with you.
  3. You choose the drinks with us.
  4. Our bar staff serve your guests at the agreed times.
  5. We clear the bar at the end.

Before we arrive

  • Have level hardstanding or firm ground ready
  • Measure any gates or arches on the way in
  • Share the running order, including any speeches

DIY taco night or a caterer?

A DIY taco night is possible for a crowd, but it’s more work than it looks. Fillings need slow cooking, tortillas need warming as you go, and salsas need making. Read our guide to taco bars.

Guests travelling by rail: the nearest station is Brading station, about 1.8 miles south-west. Historic buildings near St Helens often have strict rules for outside caterers, so ask early if that is your venue. The coast is within about 4 miles of St Helens. Wind, sand and the rules on alcohol in public places all need planning for a seaside bar.

Questions to ask before you book

Before you choose a spot

The route in matters as much as the spot itself. We look for:

  • The right licence for alcohol: the venue’s licence or a Temporary Event Notice
  • Space for guests to queue at the bar
  • Details of power and water on site

For somewhere as remote as St Helens, early notice helps us plan the trip, the route in and power.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we’ll advise before booking.
