Mexican street food in Chinatown, from our truck or trailer

For festivals, numbers can be larger than most of our events, so tell us expected visitor numbers and trading hours and we will plan stock and service. At music and food festivals and race days and sports events, we can serve vegan tacos, burrito bowls and quesadillas for your guests.

In Chinatown, a taco truck suits street parties and school fairs, once permissions are sorted. We arrive ready to serve, and clear our own area when service is finished.

Diets, allergies and planning

A little planning makes sure everyone can eat. Try these:

  • Check traders’ packaging and waste plans
  • Share vehicle access times with traders
  • Ask traders about serving speed at peak times
  • Schedule crew meals

If crew or volunteer meals are booked, they’re served at the agreed times.

Running an event in Chinatown

Chinatown is about 1 mile east of City of Westminster, in Greater London. We bring Mexican street food to gardens, halls and venues around Chinatown and the surrounding area. We cover 764 places across Greater London, from the larger towns to small villages, wherever the truck or trailer can get in.

Organisers of a summer fête for a church such as St Anne's Church could add tacos and burritos alongside the bric-a-brac. A market or festival in St Anne's Churchyard would be licensed by whoever manages the park, and we’ll provide our part of the paperwork.

Here we cover the W1F, W1D and W1T postcode area, and we can cater your event anywhere in it with access for the truck or trailer. From Duck Lane, Drury Lane and Bruton Lane or anywhere nearby, we will plan where to park and serve. Main roads around Chinatown include the A4 and A301, so getting the truck or trailer to your event is simple. For events just outside Chinatown, we cover Soho (1 mile north), St James's (1 mile south), West End (1 mile north-east), Seven Dials (1 mile north-east) and St Giles (1 mile north-east). Larger places within reach include Kensington (3 miles west), Shoreditch (3 miles north-east), Walthamstow (7 miles north-east), Hoxton (3 miles north-east), Whitechapel (3 miles east) and Hampstead (4 miles north-west).

A little further out are St James Workhouse (within half a mile north-west) and Leverian collection (less than half a mile south-east). Green spaces nearby include Barnsbury Wood and St. James's Park Lake.

  • Schools near Chinatown include LITE Regal International School (0.6 miles west) and Harris Westminster Sixth Form (0.8 miles south)
  • Local pubs include Waxy O'Connor's pub (under half a mile south-west)
  • Parks and local facilities nearby include London Library (within half a mile south-west) and Westminster St James (under half a mile south-west)

What affects the price in Chinatown

Pricing is straightforward once we know the basics:

  • Parking and the route in
  • How many staff you need
  • Food, drinks or both
  • The length of service

What’s on the menu makes a difference to the total, so share your ideas with us. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest a menu.

What we need to know

To check availability and price, we need:

  • How we drive in and where we can park
  • Where the event is
  • What power and water the site has
  • Your menu ideas

Still deciding on the menu? No problem: give us the basics about your event, and we’ll suggest a menu. To start, tell us about it on our contact page.

About the menu

Burrito bowls

Rice, beans, filling and toppings in a bowl.

Loaded nachos

Crisp chips loaded up.

What we need at the venue

If a space isn’t suitable, we’ll tell you, and suggest an alternative. The main points are:

  • Trader information and site rules
  • Room for the truck or trailer and customers
  • Clearance from tents and gazebos

In Chinatown, as everywhere in Greater London, the ULEZ applies and kerb space is limited. Where will the truck or trailer stop? A drive, a courtyard or a suspended bay can all work.

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly.

Comparing your options

Some street food is slow to serve one order at a time. Our fillings are ready to go, so orders are quick. The cost per head can fall as numbers rise, because the set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

What you get with us

  • Options for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free guests
  • Events in Chinatown and across Greater London
  • Food and drinks from one caterer, if you want both
  • Set-up planned with you and your venue

DIY taco night versus a caterer

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, with allergen information for every dish.

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up in the kitchen. With a caterer, you get the food and drinks without the work.

Chinatown questions

Is parking a problem for events in Chinatown?

London parking needs planning: let us know about permits or off-street space. Some streets may need a parking suspension from the council, and all of Greater London is inside the ULEZ.

Is it possible to have you in St Anne's Churchyard?

Only with permission from whoever runs the park, often the council. Ask them first, and we will help with the information they need from us.

Who clears up?

We clear our own area when service is finished. Ask us if you’d like help with anything else.

Do you give allergen information?

Yes, and it helps to hear about allergies when you book. UK law requires caterers to provide information on 14 allergens, and we give it for every dish (Food Standards Agency guidance). For severe allergies, please talk to us first.

Do you have vegan options?

Yes, they’re part of the planning from the start. Let us know how many vegetarian and vegan guests to expect.

What access do you need?

A level, firm spot for the truck or trailer, with access wide and high enough to drive in, and the venue’s agreement. Power and water arrangements are confirmed with each booking.

Do you do a taco bar?

Yes, a taco bar is one of our options. Tell us about your space and numbers and we’ll recommend how to serve.

Can you handle a lunchtime rush?

Fillings are cooked ahead and kept hot, so orders are assembled quickly.

How it works

Serving is quick: we serve from the hatch or a serving station, so a crowd is looked after quickly. Afterwards we clear our area. At midsummer, events in Chinatown stay light until about 9:20pm, which helps evening trading. Winter markets, dark by about 3:55pm, need a well-lit pitch.

  1. Tell us about the event, the crowd and the pitch.
  2. You get our menu and pitch requirements.
  3. We confirm power, water and access arrangements.
  4. On the day, we’re ready before the busiest hours.
  5. At close, we pack down and tidy up.

How to prepare

  • Confirm numbers and diets before the day
  • Plan a covered area for guests if rain is likely
