Planning an event in Hound?

Common questions in Hound

Do you come to events in the New Forest National Park?

We do, where the venue allows a catering vehicle. Lanes can be narrow and ground soft, so tell us how we’d get in.

Do you cater at coastal events near Hound?

We can, given firm ground and the landowner’s permission. Beaches and promenades usually need the council’s agreement, so check that first.

Can you feed our volunteers?

Yes, at set times to suit your schedule. Send us numbers and times.

Do you cater in Hound?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, and Hound is within our area and the rest of Hampshire. For a quote, send us your details through our quote form.

Can vegans eat at your stall?

Yes, always. Vegan fillings such as spiced mushrooms or black beans are on the menu.

Can you cater for vegetarians and vegans?

Yes. Vegetarian and vegan fillings, such as spiced mushrooms or black beans, can be part of the menu.

Can you trade at our festival or fair?

Send us the event details, dates and pitch information, and we will check availability.

How spicy is the food?

The food can be kept mild, with hotter salsas on the side for anyone who wants more heat.

Mexican street food in Hound, served fresh

A taco stall covers many diets at once: we serve vegan and vegetarian fillings and corn tortillas for gluten-free visitors. That makes your food line-up easier. It suits community events and open days and street food and farmers’ markets, with loaded nachos, tacos and burritos.

For a village fête or field event near Hound, we can bring hot food to a rural site. Tell us about the ground, the gate and access. Timings are planned around your event, so service starts when you want it.

Planners, venues and businesses

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a festival organiser, we are happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It saves passing messages back and forth.

Events in public spaces, like parks, normally need permission. We can send what the landowner or council needs from us.

What happens on the day

The truck or trailer tends to draw a crowd, so we’ll help you choose a spot with room for a queue. Rain does not usually stop us serving, though guests will want somewhere covered to stand or sit. For an evening event in Hound, sunset is about 8:55pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June; after that, the trading area needs lighting from the organiser or the site.

  1. Organisers send us the event details, dates and pitch information.
  2. We confirm our menu, our pitch needs and the paperwork your event asks for.
  3. We set up the truck or trailer on the pitch at the agreed time.
  4. We cook to order and serve through the agreed trading hours.
  5. When trading ends, we pack down and leave the pitch clean.

Getting ready for the day

  • Have level hardstanding or firm ground ready
  • Confirm the venue allows outside caterers
  • Plan a covered area for guests if rain is likely

Planning help

Catering for every guest

Mixed diets are straightforward to plan for, because guests can choose what suits them. A few tips:

  • Plan access routes for trader vehicles
  • Give traders a single information pack
  • Ask for allergen information at each stall
  • Tell traders about power and water before the day

We set up at the agreed time, following your trader pack.

Vegan tacos alongside the rest.

Is Mexican street food right for your event?

Burger stalls are common. Tacos add something different to a food line-up. Access and travel can make a difference to the cost, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. The full price is confirmed in your quote.

What we offer in Hound

Should I do it myself?

A DIY taco night is possible for a crowd, but it’s more work than it looks. There are fillings to slow-cook, tortillas to keep warm and salsas to make. Our taco bar guide explains how.

Running your own drinks table is one option, but someone still has to mix, pour and keep an eye on it all evening. Our margarita bar guide has tips.

What Mexican street food costs

Two events with the same number of guests can cost different amounts, because of:

  • Serving staff
  • Food, drinks or both
  • How many guests we are serving
  • Whether you need disposables

Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the length of service, plus any add-ons and the location. We quote for each event individually.

What we need to know

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and allergy numbers
  • Where the event is
  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • What power and water the site has

Space, access and the venue

Every venue is different, so we ask about the space when you get in touch. In general, we need:

  • Clearance from tents and gazebos
  • A level pitch on firm ground
  • Trader information and site rules

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we will advise.

What we offer

  • Loaded nachos
  • Quesadillas
  • Burritos
  • Vegan options
  • Burrito bowls
  • Tacos

Street food for events around Hound

Hound is about 3 miles east of Hythe, in Hampshire. Give us the address of your event in Hound, and we will plan the journey and set-up. Hound is one of 683 places in Hampshire we cover.

Organisers looking at Westwood Woodland Park as a site should start with the landowner, who sets the rules for traders and vehicles. Organisers of a summer fête for a church such as Church of St Mary could add tacos and burritos alongside the bric-a-brac. Organisers near the New Forest National Park, within about 7 miles of Hound, may face extra conditions on traffic, ground protection and waste. We work to whatever the site sets. Within about 2 miles of the sea, coastal events bring wind and sand into the plan. A firm, sheltered pitch suits a truck or trailer best.

Here we cover the SO31 postcode area. Streets in the area include Hound Road, Hound Road Gardens and Hound Close, and an event on any of them can work if the truck or trailer can park nearby. We also serve at events in Butlocks Heath (1 mile north), Netley (1 mile north-west), Hamble-le-Rice (1 mile south-east), Old Netley (1 mile north-east) and Bursledon (1 mile north-east). Larger places within reach include Winchester (13 miles north), Gosport (9 miles south-east), Havant (15 miles east), Eastleigh (6 miles north), Fareham (6 miles east) and Horndean (14 miles east).

Other landmarks nearby include Bursledon Brickworks Industrial Museum (2.2 miles north-east) and Netley Castle (1 mile west). Open spaces near Hound include Mercury Marshes.

  • Local schools include Netley Abbey Infant School (0.7 miles north-west) and Grove Park Business and Enterprise College (1.3 miles north)
  • Nearby, you’ll find Prince Consort Public House (0.7 miles west)
