How Mexican catering works in IG11

A build-your-own taco bar is one of the most sociable ways to feed a crowd. Everyone builds their own tacos from what’s laid out, so each plate is exactly how they like it. We serve a build-your-own taco bar, tacos and fresh salsas and guacamole, and it suits christenings and family parties and engagement celebrations.

Here’s how the day usually runs: we park up and get ready, service opens at the agreed time, and we serve your guests fresh until service ends.

  1. First, send us a few details about your event.
  2. We suggest fillings and extras and send a quote.
  3. Access, the serving spot, power and water are agreed in advance.
  4. We arrive, set up and serve from the hatch.
  5. Once service ends, we clear away.

Catering events across IG11

Across IG11, we cater in 3 towns and 2 villages and hamlets, so whether your event is in Barking, East Ham and Loxford or a quiet village, the approach is the same: a level, firm spot, a way in and agreed timings.

Barking: A gathering in Mayesbrook Park would need the park owner’s say-so for any catering vehicle, and that is worth sorting out early. By rail: Barking station is about 0.8 miles away. Winter evenings in Barking close in by about 3:50pm, so a well-lit spot for the queue makes a big difference. At midsummer, the light holds until around 9:20pm.

Why street food works

Guests enjoy building their own plate, and the taco bar gets them talking while they queue.

These are some of the occasions we serve:

  • Company summer parties
  • School fairs and fundraisers
  • Birthday parties
  • Retirement and leaving parties

Should I do it myself?

Doing it yourself? Start with the quantities: see how many tacos per person. Keep warmed tortillas covered, and label dishes for guests with allergies.

Plenty of people try a DIY taco night at home. The usual problems are cold tortillas, running out of a popular filling and a host stuck at the stove. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us serve.

What Mexican catering costs

These are the factors that matter most:

  • Serving staff
  • What’s on the menu
  • Guest numbers
  • Food, drinks or both

Got a budget? Let us know, and we’ll suggest a menu to match. Even a simple menu can feel generous.

What we need to know

To check availability and price, we need:

  • Whether you’d like food, drinks or both
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Your date and when you want service to start
  • Where the event is

Every quote is put together for your event. Give us your date and numbers, and we’ll check availability at the same time.

Catering for every guest

With a little notice, most diets are easy. Our advice:

  • Tell us about coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences
  • Include at least one vegan filling
  • Ask guests about diets and allergies with your invitations
  • Check that your venue allows outside caterers and vehicles

Rain does not stop us serving from the truck or trailer, though guests need somewhere under cover to eat.

Quesadillas go down well with children, because they’re simple.

Space, access and the venue

Access is the first thing to check for a truck or trailer. We look for:

  • Room for a serving table for the taco bar
  • Hardstanding or firm, level ground to park on
  • Access wide and high enough to drive in, with gates and soft lawns checked first

IG11 questions

What’s on the menu?

We agree the menu with each client, with fillings such as chicken tinga, carnitas or black beans. The sample menu shows the options.

Do you provide drinks?

Yes. The drinks bar can be added to food or booked on its own, with alcohol-free options such as aguas frescas. For alcohol, we’ll go through the licensing with you and your venue.

Can you serve in bad weather?

Rain does not stop service from the hatch. Plan a marquee, gazebo or indoor space for guests to eat in.

How much space do you need?

The main things are access and a level spot: a firm spot for the truck or trailer, room for a queue and, for a taco bar, space for a serving table. If in doubt, send us a photo of the space and the way in.

Can you serve in the rain?

We can serve from the hatch in the rain. It is worth planning a covered area for guests, and let us know if the ground gets soft after heavy rain.

Can you cater for guests who avoid dairy?

Yes, on request. Let us know your dairy-free numbers, and we’ll include them in the plan.

Can you cater for special diets?

We plan carefully for diets and keep options separate, but we can’t promise a kitchen without traces of any allergen. Guests with severe allergies should talk to us before the event.

  • Served from our truck or trailer at your venue, garden or event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, with allergen information
  • Tacos and taco bars, burritos, bowls, nachos and quesadillas
  • Mexican drinks bar: margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas
