About our Mexican street food in Newtown

A Mexican food truck pulls a crowd at any outdoor event. People follow the smell of warm tortillas, and orders are served quickly from the hatch. For race days and sports events and music and food festivals, we can serve vegan tacos, burritos and burrito bowls and more.

In Newtown, one trader covering most diets keeps it simple. Tacos and burritos can do exactly that. We cater for gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan guests, with allergen information for everything we serve.

Step by step

Once service is over, we pack up and leave our area tidy. Set-up and pack-down times are agreed with you and the venue. Summer events in Newtown have daylight until about 9:25pm at midsummer and about 7:05pm by late September, so evening trading normally finishes in daylight in high summer. For winter markets, dark by about 3:55pm, the pitch needs lighting.

  1. Send the event name, expected visitors and pitch size.
  2. We reply with our stall menu and what we need on site.
  3. Power, water and access are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day, we are ready before the busiest hours.
  5. When trading ends, the pitch is cleared and left clean.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know who to talk to on the day
  • Have a marquee or gazebo ready in case of rain
  • Choose a level, firm spot for the truck or trailer

Your questions about Mexican street food in Newtown

Do you come to school fairs around Newtown?

We can, as long as the school agrees and the truck or trailer can reach the pitch. Tell us the date, the site and roughly how many visitors you expect.

Which station should guests use for Newtown?

Guests can use Reading station, about 1.1 miles west of Newtown.

Is the food made fresh?

We slow-cook fillings ahead, then finish them and keep them hot at your event. The tortillas are warmed on site, and the salsas and guacamole are made fresh.

Can you plan for allergies?

Yes, and it helps to hear about allergies when you book. UK law requires caterers to provide information on 14 allergens, and we do that for every dish (Food Standards Agency guidance). For severe allergies, please talk to us first.

Can you feed our volunteers?

We can. Crew, volunteer and hospitality catering is available, with or without a public stall.

Will you have a stall at our event?

Tell us about the event, dates and pitch, and we will let you know if we are available.

Can we have a build-your-own taco bar?

Yes. We can set up a build-your-own taco bar, served from the truck or a serving table, with fillings, salsas, guacamole and toppings.

How spicy is the food?

It is up to you: we can keep the main dishes mild, with hotter salsas served separately.

Newtown events: pitches and permissions

Newtown is about 1 mile east of Reading, in Wokingham. Across the RG1 area, we’ll come to your venue or site, as long as there’s access. We cater in all 35 towns and villages in Wokingham, wherever the truck or trailer can get in.

Events in parks such as Eldon Square need permission from the council or landowner, and we’ll send any documents they ask for from us. Organisers of a summer fête for a church such as St John and St Stephen could add tacos and burritos alongside the bric-a-brac.

We cover events in every part of the RG1, RG6 and RG4 postcode area and the streets around it. We can cater an event on streets such as Orts Road, Eldon Road and Amity Road or the roads around them. We also serve at events in Lower Caversham (1 mile north-west), Reading (1 mile west), Earley (2 miles south-east), Caversham (2 miles north-west) and Play Hatch (2 miles north). Within a short drive, we also cover Wokingham (5 miles south-east), Crowthorne (9 miles south-east), Winnersh (3 miles south-east), Woosehill (5 miles south-east), Emmbrook (5 miles south-east) and Twyford (4 miles north-east). As one of the bigger places in Wokingham, Newtown has plenty of venues and spaces for events.

  • Nearby schools include Bulmershe College (less than half a mile west) and Maiden Erlegh School (0.6 miles south-east)
  • Nearby, you’ll find The Fisherman's Cottage pub (within half a mile west)
  • Parks and local facilities nearby include University of Reading library (1 mile south)

Planning the serving area

The route in matters as much as the spot itself. We need:

  • A pitch with space around it, away from tents and structures
  • Details of power, water and waste arrangements
  • A pitch big enough for the truck or trailer and a queue

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we will advise.

Prices and what affects them

The same guest numbers can mean different prices, depending on:

  • Staff for serving and the bar
  • Your choice of food and drinks
  • The number of people
  • Plates, napkins and cutlery

The cost per head can fall as numbers rise, because the set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

What to tell us

To speed things up, tell us:

  • How we drive in and where we can park
  • Your menu ideas
  • The date and rough timings
  • Diets and allergies you know about

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many guests, along with any dietary needs, and you’ll get menu ideas and a price. Just send us your details through our quote form.

For planners, venues and organisers

If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, whether you’re a planner, an office manager or an event organiser, we’re happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It saves passing messages back and forth.

For larger events, we plan serving points around your timings, so everyone is served promptly. Tell us how long you have for food and drinks.

Should I do it myself?

If you do it yourself, work out quantities first: our guide to how many tacos per person helps. Keep warmed tortillas covered, and label anything containing allergens.

You can set up your own drinks table, but someone still has to mix, pour and keep an eye on it all evening. See our margarita bar guide.

  • Served from our truck or trailer at your venue, garden or event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, with allergen information
  • Tacos and taco bars, burritos, bowls, nachos and quesadillas
