Mexican catering in RH5: what to expect

Mixed diets are easy to plan with Mexican street food. There are vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free options, and corn tortillas suit gluten-free guests, and allergen information is available for every dish. It works well for anniversaries and engagements and retirement and leaving parties, with burritos, tacos and loaded nachos.

When service finishes, we pack up and leave our area tidy. We agree set-up and pack-down times with you and your venue.

  1. First, send us your date, venue, numbers and any diets we should know about.
  2. You get a suggested menu, with fillings agreed with you, and a quote.
  3. We check access, power and water with you or the venue.
  4. On the day, we set up and serve from the truck or trailer, or from a taco-bar station.
  5. When service ends, we pack down and clear our area.

What you’ll pay

The cost per head can fall as numbers rise, since the set-up is much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Taco catering in RH5: local guide

RH5 covers everything from Dorking, North Holmwood and Pixham to 28 small villages and hamlets, and a food truck or trailer can work in all of them, given access. Town events mean planning parking; village events mean planning access and ground. The Surrey Hills National Landscape is within easy reach of places across RH5, where some venues have extra rules about vehicles and catering.

North Holmwood: Parks such as Inholms Clay Pit typically need the owner’s permission for vehicles and catering, so ask before you plan an event there. Guests leaving a church like Church of St John the Evangelist after a christening could walk over to a nearby garden where the tacos are ready. Winter evenings in North Holmwood close in by about 3:55pm, so a well-lit spot for the queue makes a big difference. At midsummer, the light holds until around 9:20pm.

The menu, item by item

Burritos and burrito bowls

Rice, beans, a filling and toppings rolled in a large tortilla, or served as a bowl instead.

Build-your-own taco bar

A serving table of fillings, salsas and toppings, with warm tortillas to fill. Everyone builds their own.

Before you choose a spot

Plenty of outdoor spaces and venues work for us, but a few things matter:

  • Room for a serving table for the taco bar
  • A sensible distance from buildings and neighbours
  • The venue’s or landowner’s permission for a catering vehicle

Diets, allergies and planning

Dietary needs are easy to plan for with a little notice. Our advice:

  • Include at least one vegan filling
  • Guests with serious allergies should speak to us in advance
  • Count children separately
  • Tell us what other food is being served

Food is served from the hatch, order by order, so it’s hot when it reaches them.

Margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas can be added from our drinks bar.

DIY taco night or a caterer?

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, with allergen information for every dish.

If you do it yourself, work out quantities first: see how many tacos per person. Keep tortillas warm in a covered basket, and label anything containing allergens.

Is Mexican catering right for you?

Compared with a hog roast or barbecue, Mexican street food is easier for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free guests, thanks to separate fillings and toppings.

What your quote should include

  • The deposit and payment dates
  • Whether VAT is included
  • Any travel, parking or access charges
  • How dietary needs and allergies are handled

FAQs for RH5

Do you have gluten-free options?

Yes, we offer gluten-free options, using corn tortillas. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we can talk through how their food is prepared.

Do you cater for vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free guests?

We can. There are vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free options, and corn tortillas suit gluten-free guests. Allergen information is available for every dish.

How big an event can you cater?

Our truck and trailer service generally suits events of around 50 to 400 guests. Festivals can be bigger, and smaller parties are quoted case by case. Send us your numbers and we’ll advise.

Do you provide allergen information for each dish?

Yes, and it helps to hear about allergies when you book. UK law requires caterers to provide information on 14 allergens, and we give it for every dish (Food Standards Agency guidance). For severe allergies, please talk to us first.

What is mobile Mexican catering?

We arrive with our own mobile kitchen. We set up at your venue, serve hot food to order and pack down afterwards.

How far ahead should we book?

The sooner the better. Peak dates go quickly, so it pays to ask early.

Do you have options for kids?

Yes. Mild dishes, quesadillas and nachos can be part of the menu. Include children in your numbers.
