Diets, allergies and planning

A Mexican menu is easy to plan for mixed diets, because guests can choose what suits them. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Decide where the table goes before the day
  • Put allergies in writing for us
  • Plan the taco bar around speeches and timings
  • Have tables and seats ready for guests to eat at

Staff stay at the taco bar to refill bowls and answer questions about fillings and allergens.

Loaded nachos make a good starter while the bar is set up.

Is taco bar hire right for your event?

A plated wedding breakfast needs a kitchen, waiting staff and fixed courses. A taco bar needs a serving spot, somewhere close to unload and the venue’s agreement, and power and water are confirmed with each booking. Larger events can cost less per head, since the set-up is much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Why us?

  • Quoted for your event
  • Every guest catered for, vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free included
  • Allergen-aware menus
  • Events in Gibraltar and across Buckinghamshire

DIY taco night versus a caterer

Not sure whether to do it yourself or book a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. Ask us for a quote and compare.

A DIY taco night is possible for a crowd, but it is more work than it looks. Fillings need slow cooking, tortillas need warming as you go, and salsas need making. Read our guide to taco bars.

Taco bar hire in Gibraltar: local tips

Gibraltar is about 3 miles south-west of Haydon Hill, in Buckinghamshire. Give us the address of your event in Gibraltar, and we’ll plan the journey and set-up. Gibraltar is one of 263 towns and villages in Buckinghamshire we cover. Our truck and trailer cover the area from Gibraltar to High Wycombe (about 13 miles away).

Close to Gibraltar are historic houses such as Waddesdon Manor (3.8 miles north-west). If your event is at a historic house or estate, ask early whether a staffed taco bar is allowed and where we could unload. By rail: Haddenham & Thame Parkway station is about 2.2 miles away. The Chilterns National Landscape is within about 8 miles of Gibraltar, with barns and country venues that could host a taco bar. Where vehicles can’t reach the room, the station can be set up there with the venue’s agreement, but we still need to unload close by.

Wherever your event is in HP17 and HP18, we can bring the truck or trailer to your guests, from busy streets to quiet lanes. From New Road, Brogan Place and Donnington Row or anywhere nearby, we can bring taco bar hire there, given access. Nearby, we also cater events in Cuddington (1 mile west), Haddenham (2 miles south-west), Chearsley (2 miles west), Kingsey (3 miles south) and Towersey (4 miles south-west). We also cater in nearby towns such as Aylesbury (4 miles north-east), High Wycombe (13 miles south-east), Chesham (14 miles south-east), Buckingham (15 miles north), Amersham (15 miles south-east) and Elmhurst (5 miles north-east).

Other landmarks nearby include St John's Hospital (1.4 miles north-east) and Dinton Castle (0.6 miles north-east). Not far away are Snakemoor.

Common questions in Gibraltar

Which station should guests use for Gibraltar?

Guests can use Haddenham & Thame Parkway station, about 2.2 miles south-west of Gibraltar.

Do you set up taco bars indoors in places like Gibraltar?

We can, as long as the venue agrees. The station needs room for a queue, and we need to park and unload close to the door.

How spicy is the food?

That is your choice: we can keep it mild and put the hotter salsas on the side. Read more about how spicy Mexican food is.

Is there a minimum number of guests?

It depends on the menu and how long service runs, but our truck and trailer service normally suits around 50 to 400 guests. For anything outside that, ask us.

When should we book?

Early, particularly for summer Saturdays. Even if it is short notice, it is worth asking.

What space does a taco bar need?

A level spot for the serving table, room to queue and somewhere close to unload our vehicle. We confirm power and water when you book.

Can guests build their own tacos?

Yes, a taco bar is one of the ways we serve. Let us know your numbers and space and we will suggest the best set-up.

Can you set up where a truck can’t get in?

It can go beside the truck or trailer, or somewhere a vehicle cannot reach. We need a nearby place to unload, plus the venue’s agreement.

Perfect for your event in Gibraltar

Guests choose exactly what goes on their plate.

If you are planning any of these, we can help:

  • Anniversary parties
  • Wedding breakfasts
  • Birthday parties
  • Company parties

When the service is at a church such as Church of Saints Peter and Paul, the taco bar would be set up at the reception venue rather than the church.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How long the service runs
  • Where to see their hygiene rating
  • The venue requirements
  • Any travel, parking or access charges

How to compare caterers

Space, access and the venue

We will be honest if a space won’t work. The main points are:

  • Permission from the venue for us to set up
  • Power and water, which we confirm when you book
  • Room for guests to queue along the table

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.
