Questions to ask before you book

What we need at the venue

Before the day, we will agree where we park and serve. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • Details of power and water on site, agreed when you book
  • A clear area in front of the hatch for a queue
  • Access wide and high enough to drive in, with gates and soft lawns checked first

Out-of-the-way places like Ashey take a little more planning, so let us know about tracks, gates and power in good time.

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

What we offer

Should I do it myself?

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, with allergen information for every dish.

Questions from Ashey

Which station should guests use for Ashey?

Guests can use Smallbrook Junction station, about 1.5 miles north-east of Ashey.

Can you serve near the sea around Ashey?

Yes, as long as the site allows it and the ground is firm. Wind, sand and seafront permissions are the main things to plan on the coast.

What if the weather’s bad?

We can serve from the hatch in the rain. Plan cover for guests, such as a marquee or gazebo, and tell us if heavy rain could make the ground soft.

Can you cater for children?

Yes, children are welcome. Let us know numbers and ages, and we’ll plan the menu with them in mind.

How spicy is the food?

That is your choice: we can keep the main dishes mild, with hotter salsas served separately. Read more about how spicy Mexican food is.

Do you have gluten-free options?

Yes, gluten-free options are available, using corn tortillas. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we can talk through how their food is prepared.

How long do you serve for?

We get there well before service to set up. The length of service is agreed when you book.

Is the food made fresh?

We slow-cook fillings ahead, then finish them and keep them hot at your event. The tortillas are warmed on site, and the salsas and guacamole are made fresh.

The process

Guests tend to gather around the truck, so we will help you choose a spot with room for a queue. We can serve in the rain, but guests will need somewhere covered. For a summer wedding in Ashey, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, which means evening food is typically served in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 4:00pm in December, plan lighting around the truck or trailer.

  1. We start with your date, venue, guest numbers and ideas for the day.
  2. We plan the food with you: wedding breakfast, evening food or both.
  3. We agree access, timings, power and water with you and your venue.
  4. On the day, we set up and serve on cue, around speeches and photos.
  5. Once service is done, we pack away quietly.

How to prepare

  • Name one person we can ask on the day
  • Check gates and access routes are wide and high enough
  • Tell us what power and water the site has
