DIY taco night versus a caterer

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, with allergen information for every dish.

Running your own drinks table is one option, but someone still has to mix, pour and keep an eye on it all evening. Our margarita bar guide has tips.

What we need to know

Good planning starts with a few facts. Please include:

  • The date and rough timings
  • The address or venue name
  • How we drive in and where we can park
  • Any dietary needs and allergies

A detailed enquiry gets a more accurate quote: the venue, the timings, food or drinks or both, and the access. When you’re ready, tell us about it on our contact page.

Comparing your options

Most guests have seen a burger van. Tacos and burritos from a truck feel different. The price depends on guest numbers, the menu and how long you’d like us to serve, plus any add-ons and the location. We quote for each event individually.

How the day works

Guests tend to gather around the truck, so we’ll help you choose a spot with room for a queue. We can serve in the rain, but guests will need somewhere covered. A hired food truck at a summer event in Beal's Green can serve in daylight until about 9:15pm at midsummer, and by late September sunset is about 7:00pm. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, plan lighting where guests queue at the hatch.

  1. Share your plans for the event.
  2. We suggest fillings and dishes for every diet.
  3. Power, water and timings are agreed with you or the venue.
  4. The truck serves at the agreed times.
  5. Once service ends, we tidy up and go.
