DIY taco night versus a caterer

Some hosts like to do it themselves. Common snags are cold tortillas, uneven quantities and the host missing the party. If you’d rather be with your guests, we’ll do the serving.

A DIY taco night is possible for a crowd, but it’s more work than it looks. There are fillings to slow-cook, tortillas to keep warm and salsas to make. Read our guide to taco bars.

How our food truck hire works in Maidstone

Guests walk up to the hatch, order and take their food away hot. It keeps things easy and relaxed. At private parties in fields and grounds and client hospitality, we can serve quesadillas, tacos from the hatch and loaded nachos and more.

In central Maidstone, access and parking are the things to plan for a hired food truck; on site we need level ground and space for guests to queue. Guests are served from our truck or trailer, or from a serving table nearby, and we plan service so the queue keeps moving.

Planning the serving area

No two venues are the same, so we ask about the space when you get in touch. In general, we need:

  • A flat parking spot on firm ground or hardstanding
  • Somewhere for guests to sit or stand and eat
  • Gate widths, overhead branches and soft ground checked in advance

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we’ll advise before you book.

A food truck in River Len LNR would need the park owner’s agreement, so check that first. Maidstone is about 31 miles from central London, which can suit a team day out of the city with a hired food truck. With the Kent Downs National Landscape within about 5 miles, a rural setting for your private or work event is within reach. Firm ground and a clear way in matter most for the truck or trailer.

Food truck hire in ME15, ME16, ME14 and ME17 is planned around your venue and access and your guests. How to compare caterers

How we price food truck hire

The same guest numbers can mean different prices, because of:

  • Travel, parking and access
  • What the venue already provides
  • Timings and hours
  • The number of people

Got a budget? Let us know, and we’ll suggest a menu to match. A simple menu can still feel generous.

What we need to know

You do not need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:

  • A photo of the space, if it’s a garden or field
  • The venue or postcode
  • Your menu ideas
  • Diets and allergies you know about

We need only a few details to quote: date, location, guest numbers and diets. Contact us for a quote: just send us your details through our quote form.

About the menu

Burritos

Rice, beans, a filling and salsa wrapped in a big tortilla.

Salsas and guacamole

Fresh salsas and guacamole, made for your event.

Planning for every diet

With a little notice, most diets are easy. We suggest:

  • Count children separately
  • Confirm the venue accepts outside caterers and vehicles
  • Look into parking permissions if the truck can’t go off-road
  • Agree service times with us

Allergen information is available at the hatch for every dish, so guests can ask before ordering.

Quesadillas make an easy option for children.

Your questions about food truck hire in Maidstone

Which station is closest to Maidstone?

Guests can use Maidstone West station, about 0.6 miles north-west of Maidstone.

Can you bring a truck or trailer to venues in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We will follow the site rules.

Do you have gluten-free options?

Yes, we offer gluten-free options, using corn tortillas. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we can talk through how their food is prepared. See are corn tortillas gluten-free?

What does food truck hire cost?

We quote for each event, based on what you actually need. Give us your date, numbers and menu ideas for a clear quote.

Is the food very hot?

It’s up to you: we can keep it mild and put the hotter salsas on the side. Read more about how spicy Mexican food is.

How much space do you need?

Access and level ground matter most: a firm spot for the truck or trailer, room for a queue and, for a taco bar, space for a serving table. If in doubt, send us a photo of the space and the way in.

When should we book?

Early, particularly for summer Saturdays. Even if it is short notice, it is worth asking.

How long are you on site?

We get there well before service to set up. The length of service is agreed when you book.

The process

Here’s how the day typically runs: we park up and get ready, we open the hatch when you’re ready, and your guests are served fresh until service ends. A Christmas party in Maidstone with a hired food truck will be in the dark from about 3:50pm, so ask the venue about outdoor lighting where we will park. In late June, it stays light until about 9:15pm.

  1. First come the basics: date, location, numbers and diets.
  2. We suggest a menu for the hatch and quote for it.
  3. Where the truck or trailer will stand, the route in, and power and water are all agreed in advance.
  4. On the day we drive in, set up and serve to order from the hatch.
  5. After service, we close the hatch, pack down and drive away.

Before we arrive

  • Share the running order, including any speeches
  • Give us your final numbers and diets
  • Give us a contact for the day
