West Hill questions

Is West Hill close to London?

About 46 miles from central London, and we cover it.

Can you trade at a school fair in West Hill?

We can, as long as the school agrees and the truck or trailer can reach the pitch. Tell us the date, the site and roughly how many visitors you expect.

What access do you need?

Access and level ground matter most: a firm spot for the truck or trailer, room for a queue and, for a taco bar, space for a serving table. Send us a picture and tell us about gates, slopes and soft ground.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We pack down and tidy our own area after service. Ask us if you’d like help with anything else.

Can you run a bar?

Yes, we offer a Mexican drinks bar, serving margaritas, Mexican beer, aguas frescas such as hibiscus and horchata, and soft drinks. Alcohol at an event may need a licence, such as a premises licence or a Temporary Event Notice, so we will talk licensing through with you.

Do you provide allergen information for each dish?

Yes. Tell us about allergies when you book. Under UK rules, caterers must give information on 14 allergens, and we give it for every dish (Food Standards Agency guidance). Anyone with a severe allergy should speak to us before the event.

Is the food made fresh?

Food is cooked to order in our food truck or trailer, or served from a build-your-own taco bar. Fillings are slow-cooked beforehand and finished on site.

Is there a minimum number of guests?

Truck and trailer service usually suits around 50 to 400 guests. Smaller parties are quoted case by case, and festivals can be larger. Tell us your numbers.

How the day works

Your timings come first. If things run behind, let us know and we will adjust where we can. Christmas markets in West Hill trade in the dark from about 3:55pm, so a lit pitch helps visitors find the truck. At midsummer, daylight lasts until roughly 9:15pm.

  1. Send us your event details and pitch information.
  2. We confirm our menu, pitch needs and paperwork.
  3. We arrive and set up at the agreed time.
  4. We serve to order through the event.
  5. We pack down and tidy the pitch.

Preparing for the day

  • Confirm the venue allows outside caterers
  • Ask the venue about power and water
  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to park

Can I do a taco night myself?

Plenty of people try a DIY taco night at home. Common snags are cold tortillas, uneven quantities and the host missing the party. If you’d rather be with your guests, we’ll do the serving.

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, with allergen information for every dish.

West Hill events: pitches and permissions

West Hill is about 1 mile west of Brighton, in Brighton and Hove. For Mexican street food in West Hill, we can serve in gardens, fields, venues, car parks and courtyards with access in and around West Hill. We cater in all 30 towns and villages across Brighton and Hove.

If you are organising a summer fair or fundraiser for a school such as St Paul's CofE Primary School and Nursery, a taco truck can be a crowd-pleaser. Organisers looking at St. Ann's Well Gardens as a site should start with the landowner, who sets the rules for traders and vehicles. Organisers near the South Downs National Park, within about 7 miles of West Hill, may face extra conditions on traffic, ground protection and waste. We work to whatever the site sets. With the sea within about a mile, we plan for wind at coastal events, on firm ground rather than sand.

Wherever your event is in BN1, BN3 and BN2, we can bring the truck or trailer to your guests, from busy streets to quiet lanes. We can cater an event on streets such as Powis Road, North Road and York Avenue or the roads around them. West Hill sits on or near the A2010, so getting the truck or trailer to your event is simple.
