Taco bar hire in Bitterne Manor, served fresh

We run the taco bar ourselves: keeping the fillings hot, warming tortillas and topping up the bowls. Your hosts can stay with their guests. It suits team socials and barn parties, with fresh salsas, a build-your-own taco bar and warm corn and flour tortillas.

Around Bitterne Manor, a taco bar can stand beside our truck on a drive or lawn. If the truck cannot reach the garden, we park as close as we can and set the station up where your guests are. Access, space and power are agreed with you beforehand, so set-up goes smoothly.

Popular choices

Guacamole

Freshly made guacamole with lime.

Hot fillings

A few fillings give guests plenty of choice, with at least one vegan. We agree them with you.

Planning the serving area

Plenty of outdoor spaces and venues work for us, but there are a few things to check:

  • A sheltered spot if we’re serving outside
  • A clear area in front of the station
  • A level area for the taco-bar table

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we will advise before booking.

Popular choices

  • Corn and flour tortillas
  • Vegan fillings
  • Tortilla chips
  • Two to four fillings
  • Salsas and guacamole
  • Pickled onions and toppings

Comparing your options

The difference between a taco bar and truck service is who builds the taco. At the hatch, we make each order; at the bar, guests build their own. Catering from a truck or trailer can be a practical alternative to a sit-down meal, as there is no kitchen to hire. Contact us for a quote to compare.

Why book with us

  • Every guest catered for, vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free included
  • Set-up planned with you and your venue
  • A menu built around your guests
  • Allergen information for every dish

See our prices page or our guide to catering costs.

What happens on the day

Expect a friendly, organised team. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up our truck or trailer, and serve without fuss. In Bitterne Manor, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so a summer taco bar outside normally runs in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so guests will need light to see the fillings and toppings.

  1. Get in touch with your date and headcount.
  2. We agree a menu that covers every diet.
  3. Nearer the date, we confirm timings and the serving spot.
  4. Service starts when your running order says.
  5. Once service is over, we pack away.

Planning help

Dietary needs and planning tips

A Mexican menu is easy to plan for mixed diets, because options can be kept separate. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Put guests with serious allergies in touch with us early
  • Let us know about anyone who is coeliac
  • Count children separately
  • Put allergies in writing for us

Staff stay at the taco bar to refill bowls and answer questions about fillings and allergens.

Add burrito bowls for guests who’d rather skip tortillas.

Bitterne Manor: venues, access and set-up

Bitterne Manor is about 1 mile east of Southampton, in Southampton. Across the SO18 area, we can serve your guests. We cover 40 places across Southampton, from the larger towns to small villages, wherever the truck or trailer can get in.

Parks such as Rockstone Place Park typically need the owner’s agreement for catering, even without a truck on the grass, so ask before you plan. Guests leaving a church like Church of St Denys could head to a nearby hall or garden where the taco bar is ready. Bitterne Manor is within about 8 miles of the New Forest National Park, with barns and country venues that could host a taco bar. Where vehicles can’t reach the room, the station can be set up there with the venue’s agreement, but we still need to unload close by. With the sea within about 2 miles, a taco bar at a coastal venue is an option. Open toppings and a sea breeze don’t mix, so a sheltered or indoor spot is best.

We serve at events all over SO18, SO17 and SO14 and the streets around it. From Ivy Road, North Road and South Road or anywhere nearby, we’ll plan where to park and serve. Other places close to Bitterne Manor for taco bar hire include St Denys (1 mile north-west), Southampton (1 mile west), Northam (1 mile south), Bitterne Park (1 mile north-east) and Portswood (1 mile north-west). We also cater in nearby towns such as Regents Park (3 miles west), Maybush (3 miles west), Coxford (3 miles north-west), Lordswood (3 miles north-west), Eling (5 miles west) and Rownhams (4 miles north-west).

A little further out are Bitterne Local History Society Heritage And Research Centre (0.9 miles east) and Netley Castle (3 miles south). Not far away are Netley Common.

  • Schools near Bitterne Manor include St Mary's Independent School (0.6 miles east) and Bitterne Park School (1 mile north-east)
  • Pubs nearby include The Junction Inn Public House (under half a mile north-west)

DIY taco night or a caterer?

Doing it yourself? Start with the quantities: see how many tacos per person. Keep tortillas warm in a covered basket, and label dishes for guests with allergies.

Plenty of people try a DIY taco night at home. Common snags are cold tortillas, uneven quantities and the host missing the party. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us serve.

What affects the price in Bitterne Manor

Pricing is straightforward once we know the basics:

  • Food, drinks or both
  • The number of people
  • Staff for serving and the bar
  • Distance and access to the venue

The cost per head can fall as numbers rise, because the set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

Getting an accurate quote

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • How we drive in and where we can park
  • Your menu ideas
  • Where the event is
  • Your date and when you want service to start

Most quotes start with a few simple details: date, location, guest numbers and diets. To send them, drop us a line using the enquiry form.

Bitterne Manor: your questions answered

Do you come to events in the New Forest National Park?

We do, where the venue allows a catering vehicle. Lanes can be narrow and ground soft, so tell us how we’d get in.

Can you serve near the sea around Bitterne Manor?

Yes, with permission for the spot and firm ground for the truck or trailer. Seafront and beach spots normally need permission, and wind is the main thing to plan for.

Does the taco bar need the truck on site?

The taco bar can be served from a table or station away from the truck. We still need somewhere close to unload our vehicle, and the venue has to agree.

What space does a taco bar need?

A level spot for the serving table, room to queue and somewhere close to unload our vehicle. We confirm power and water when you book.

What if the weather’s bad?

We can keep serving from the truck or trailer in the rain, but your guests will want somewhere covered, like a marquee or gazebo.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

Yes, we offer gluten-free options, made with corn tortillas. Tell us about any coeliac guests before the event so we can explain how we prepare their food.

Do you provide plates and napkins?

Ask us when you enquire. Tell us what your venue provides, and we will confirm what’s included with your quote.

What food and drinks do you offer?

Mexican street food: tacos, taco bars, burritos, bowls, nachos and quesadillas, with salsas, guacamole and toppings. A drinks bar is available too.

  • Served from our truck or trailer at your venue, garden or event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, with allergen information
  • Tacos and taco bars, burritos, bowls, nachos and quesadillas
  • Mexican drinks bar: margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas
