Common questions in Roedean

Could you serve in Whitehawk Hill?

It depends on the park’s owner, who would need to agree to a catering vehicle on site. Ask them first; if they say yes, we’ll send what they need from us.

Can you serve near the sea around Roedean?

We can, given firm ground and the landowner’s permission. Beaches and promenades typically need the council’s agreement, so check that first.

Can you come to a private house?

It depends on access. A drive or a spot nearby may work, with permission, if the garden itself is out of reach. Send us a picture and we will talk it through.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

Yes, we offer gluten-free options, made with corn tortillas. Tell us about any coeliac guests before the event so we can talk through how their food is prepared.

Do you need electricity?

Tell us what the site has, for instance a supply from the venue, and we will confirm the arrangements with your quote.

Is the food made fresh?

Fillings are slow-cooked in advance, then finished and kept hot on site. The tortillas are warmed on site, and the salsas and guacamole are made fresh.

What do you need at the venue?

The main things are access and a level spot: a level spot to park, space for guests to queue and a little room for a serving table. Send us a photo and tell us about gates, slopes and soft ground.

How do you handle dietary needs at the taco bar?

Keeping each dish separate makes mixed diets easier, though we cannot guarantee there are no traces of any allergen. Guests with severe allergies should talk to us first.

Taco bar hire in Roedean, from our truck or trailer

Taco bars suit wedding breakfasts, parties and office lunches alike. Building your own is quick, which keeps the line moving. It works well for leaving and retirement parties and wedding day food, with guacamole, slow-cooked fillings kept hot and fresh salsas.

In a small place like Roedean, a taco bar might go in a garden, a barn or a nearby hall. If lanes or soft ground stop the truck getting close, the station can be set up nearer your guests, as long as we can unload within a short walk. Every guest is catered for, vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free included, with allergen information for everything we serve.

DIY taco night versus a caterer

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party serving. Booking a caterer means you can relax with everyone else.

You can set up your own drinks table, but someone still has to mix, pour and keep an eye on it all evening. Our margarita bar guide has tips.

Dietary needs and planning tips

With a little notice, most diets are easy. Our advice:

  • Ask guests about diets and allergies on the RSVP
  • Give us separate numbers for children
  • Fit the bar into your running order
  • Choose at least one vegan filling

We arrive with time to unload and set the bar up before guests eat.

Ask us about plates, napkins and cutlery and we’ll confirm what’s possible in your quote.

What happens on the day

From set-up to service, we look after everything you’ve booked from us, so you can enjoy your event. In Roedean, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so an outdoor taco bar in summer is typically served in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so guests will need light to see the fillings and toppings.

  1. Start with your date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We plan the fillings, salsas and toppings with you.
  3. The venue confirms where the bar goes and where we park.
  4. Our staff set out the bar and guests build their own tacos.
  5. When everyone has eaten, we pack up.

Getting ready for the day

  • Give us a contact for the day
  • Confirm the venue allows outside caterers
  • Have level hardstanding or firm ground ready
