Planning an event in Rough Common?

Can I do a taco night myself?

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up in the kitchen. With a caterer, you get the food and drinks without the work.

A DIY taco night is possible for a crowd, but it is more work than it looks. Fillings need slow cooking, tortillas need warming as you go, and salsas need making. Read our guide to taco bars.

Extra dishes, drinks and longer service are priced on request, so you can choose what you need.

Getting an accurate quote

For a quote, it helps to have:

  • A photo of the space, if it is a garden or field
  • Your menu ideas
  • Access for the truck or trailer, including gates and ground

To get a price, just use our quote form. Tell us about your event in Rough Common, and we will put together a menu and price.

  • The venue’s agreement for the taco bar and our vehicle
  • Details of power and water near the bar

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly.

How the day works

A typical event goes like this: we park up and get ready, we open the hatch when you are ready, and we serve your guests fresh for the agreed time. In Rough Common, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:00pm in late September, so a summer taco bar outside normally runs in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:50pm, so guests will need light to see the fillings and toppings.

  1. Start with your date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. Together we choose what goes on the bar.
  3. We confirm the table spot and where we will unload.
  4. On the day, guests help themselves while we keep the bar stocked.
  5. When everyone has eaten, we pack up.

Getting ready for the day

  • Find out what power and water are available
  • Check gates and access routes are wide and high enough
  • Give us a contact for the day

How to get a price

Diets, allergies and planning

Mixed diets are straightforward to plan for, because options can be kept separate. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Tell us when guests should eat
  • Send us allergy details in writing
  • Choose at least one vegan filling
  • Tell us about coeliac guests specifically

We arrive with time to unload and set the bar up before guests eat.

Rough Common: your questions answered

Can you bring your truck or trailer to Whitehall Meadows?

Only if the landowner, often the council, allows it. Ask them first, and we will help with the information they need from us.

Could you serve our guests after a service at Church of St. Gabriel?

Yes. The church itself is not where we’d set up, but a hall, field or garden close by with room for the truck or trailer can work well. Let us know the reception address and we’ll check the access.

Do you provide allergen information for each dish?

Yes. Tell us about allergies when you book. Under UK rules, caterers must give information on 14 allergens, and we give it for every dish (Food Standards Agency guidance). Anyone with a severe allergy should speak to us before the event.

Do you have gluten-free options?

Yes, gluten-free options are available, using corn tortillas. Tell us about any coeliac guests before the event so we can explain how we prepare their food.

Can you run a bar?

Yes, we offer a Mexican drinks bar, serving margaritas, Mexican beer, aguas frescas such as hibiscus and horchata, and soft drinks. Your venue or event may need the right licence for alcohol, so we will go through the licensing with you.

How many guests can you serve?

Truck and trailer service normally suits around 50 to 400 guests. Festivals can be bigger, and smaller parties are quoted case by case. Send us your numbers and we will advise.

Is the food very hot?

That’s your choice: we can keep the main dishes mild, with hotter salsas served separately. Read more about how spicy Mexican food is.

Do you do a taco bar?

Yes. A build-your-own taco bar can be served from the truck or a serving station, with fillings, salsas and toppings to choose from. Read our taco bar guide.

For planners, venues and organisers

Events in public spaces, like parks, usually need permission. We’ll provide the information the landowner or council asks for from us.

For repeat events, such as annual staff parties or seasonal fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can check the date.
